I have run, I have crawled
I have scaled these city walls
These city walls
Only to be with you.

But I still haven't found
What I'm looking for.

What I'm looking for.

With apologies to U2.

I'm looking for a GREAT set of BBQ gloves.

So far I've tried the rubbery Steve Raichlen-branded gloves and found they lose their pliability over time, the rubber gets tough and begins to decay, and mine got wet on the inside and they started to mildew. On the plus side, they did keep the heat at bay when moving meat around and when pulling pork or slicing brisket.

I tried a paid of highly-regarded silicone gloves from Amazon (something called Kitchco) and despite their cool blaze orange color, I thought they didn't protect from heat for long and now, after a few months of light use, there's a split in one of the fingers.

I know some on here recommend using knit "Ove-Glove" style gloves with another glove on top (latex? vinyl? nitrile?). Is that the right approach? I have bear claws for hands, so I need something that fits a meaty paw.

Since I trust the recommendations from Brethren more than a review on Amazon, I figured I'd go to the source.

I've got a big hand too, I just ordered a pair of these but haven't had a chance to use them yet. I've been burned by bbq gloves before, pun intended and not intended simultaneously, but i'll find out for sure come super bowl.

Why try pulling when meat is that hot? I too use wder gloves just for removing from the grates but wait a bit before pulling. That's a good time to have a drink and make finishing sauce for me.

They look great, the thing that throws me is that in the text they say you can "use them several times". This makes them sound like disposable gloves. Is this a typo?

No. Don't know why it says that. Right after that it says "Durable, long lasting". I've had mine for years.. I don't think you'll be disappointed in them and they aren't expensive,,,, and free shipping.

I have always used a knit glove under a nitrile for meat transfer and leather gloves for the firebox. Glad to see there are more/possibly better options though.

Any of you that have these gloves happen to have really big hands? Trying to gauge how well they will fit my hands.

I also use these gloves and admit that they are a bit big for me. They still work great for moving meat and I haven't had any problems with heat coming through when pulling pork/chicken.

I would recommend other gloves if you were looking for something to move coals/wood with.

Don’t know if it will help you out any but these are what we use, and so far they have been pretty good and they buffer the heat really well. Hand wash when done and let air dry. They don’t last forever, using them every weekend you should get a solid 4 to 6 months out of them and they are cheap enough to buy more when they do start to crack. We buy them at a local welding shop for 5.59 a pair, that’s not airgas.

I'll bet they meant "wash them several times" (due to the inner liner). Thanks.

I keep the inside of mine clean. I put them on and wash them under hot water in the sink, with dish detergent. Like washing your hands.

I need to buy another pair myself. Sliced a chunk off of one fingertip a while back when carving a brisket..
