That's a quality looking pit. Raises my interest in gravity feeds.

It's well thought out. Running with the Fireboard2 Drive and Pit viper Guru has been great. Just running the fan off the internal battery of the Fireboard thus far has been nice...less cables/wires always a plus. There is a lot of room in this cooker...more than I need really. I like the additional width for a little more air flow over the Assassin 17, which was pretty much the only other contender for this purchase. I ran B&B briquettes on the first 2 cooks. I think I'm going to run RO All Natural this weekend. The B&B seemed to leave a lot of ash behind. I've really only used it before in my Weber's to grill, so not sure what the difference, but the ash pan filled up faster than I thought it would.

I'm happy to try to answer any questions about this unit. Scott was really nice and even called me after he saw it was delivered just to make sure everything looked good and see if I had any questions.

Do all gravity feeds have a convection plate to even out side to side temps ?

How about radiant heat from the firebox, how does it compare to others ?

I know Assassin has the diffuser that sits on the bottom of the cooker and it has a tube that connects into the grease drain hole. I have heard from some that the bottom rack on the Assassin runs hotter. Deep South does have a diffuser. I did a temp test with multiple probes on each of my racks. Running at 250 and it was settled in I saw difference of only 5-10 degrees when the probes were centered. I did notice it went up about 5 more degrees if I moved the probes closer to the right...closer to the firebox/chute.

That’s about what I noticed as far as temp differences in mine. A little hotter down towards the firebox side, but overall pretty even throughout the cook chamber. The air movement seems pretty decent.

I do wind up dumping the ashes about every 6-8 hours. I have a metal dump bucket sitting right below the firebox door and just use a pair of channel locks, which makes quick work of it.

Interesting. Do you use an ATC and does it pick up ash ?

I'm finding I need to empty ash on my MB 560 a lot.

Sorry, Automatic Temp Controller ............. BBQ Guru, etc

Got it. I also have a Fireboard II, and a pit viper fan combo. It’s a great pair with the Limo. I’d imagine the Guru works well also.

I get a tiny amount of Ash in the bottom of the cook chamber, but it is a small amount. It really doesn’t blow the ash in the ash pan at all. Just takes a bit of ash before it drops. The main issue is it will start to overflow the ash pan if you leave it too long. It’s not a huge ash pan. I have left it alone a couple times with 12 + hours cooks with no issue, it just more ash than what fits in the pan. Just a little more cleanup is all with the ash. So if I am around, I will spend the 20-30 seconds to dump the ash out periodically.
