You got sucked back in!
Thought you might be ready for a break.
You got sucked back in!
Yeah I have a plasma cutter, my wife loves me and listens to what I tell my friends. I have a lot of coaches when it comes to welding. The problem I have is keeping the tungsten away from puddle/filler. Probably didn't help that I started to learn on aluminum. Started getting the hang of it and then electricity rates went up and you can see the meter try to spin the house! Need to get back to it. Wish I had time to take a class. My eyesight is changing with age, need reading glasses. Got a hood with magnifier lens. Real cool if you need it.
Little tip for those that have trouble getting lid to seal. I distorted my drum when dumping it by doing the old trashman slam. I took the band used to seal drum and welded a cheap pair of vice grip clamp pliars and clamp it. Seals great.
Can you tell me who the recycler is? This would be perfect for me since I can't burn out my own barrel living where I am right now.I get the drums from a drum recycler in woburn mass, $20, they run all the drums through a giant furnace that removes all the original paint and any traces of what was in the drum. They usually sell them pained on the inside and outside. I grabbed one that was only painted on the outside. The inside was as left as it was burned, pretty much bare metal, but with a little surface rust because it sat for a while.

Thanks, neighbor!
I also got mine from a recycler in Woburn. Maybe not the same guy, but how many can there be? Here it is:

Thanks guys, I'll be picking one up next week!
If I were to designate one UDS just for ribs; could I make the racks closer (lower the top one)? Would this still work with a flat lid? Has anyone tried it?

when i seasoned my drum i still had a good bit of sut from my burn out in there. is that a problem?
Is there a set amount of space that needs to be between the meat and the lid to ensure proper smoke flavor prior to venting? Would the (8) 1/2" holes work better or the single exhaust?I did something like that, one one of mine i made for competition i put the chicken rack on bottom and the rib rack on top. I will post pics later when i get home. It seems to work out ok with the flat lid. The UDS is a magic maker. Last weekend i put a brisket and two pork butts in and about 9 hours later I opened the lid and found 3 perfect pieces of meat.
We had the same idea, we go through a couple of the big boxes of Miller Lite every weekend and we pull for the Blue Deuce on race day. Ultimate tailgaterI am almost done with my first UDS. I did the standard build.
Here's the charcoal basket.
My inspiration.

I will do the seasoning burn tonight... probably cook something this weekend... and I have to wait for my artistically talented MIL from Germany to visit next month (when my wife pops out girl #3) to finish the Saint Arnold Brown Ale label paint job on the side. I need to look for some stencils for the bottle cap lid to finish that part.
