I just clamp onto the thermo stem, but then again, Its just a guideline for me.

I do like the wood skewer idea though. I have heard of using a potatoe as well, just stick something into it that the guru can clip onto.
 
Update this is my first time with a insulated smoker. This is unreal it's -5 below and it doesn't even phase this cooker. Money well spent can't wait to put the pork butt on tomorrow. Pics to come. 👍👍👍

Here's a +1 on using a front end loader.
It's amazing what a good op. can do with one.

Good looking smoker.
You'll have many happy hours smoking with that beast.
