I am living this one.
Me too.

Keep it simple on the first time cooking. Maybe some well-brined boneless skinless breasts with a simple seasoning, a nice side salad, some roasted potatoes and whatever vegetable that she likes.

Or do like me, and make Hamburger Helper. It wooed my wife.

I say a big pot of beans, some hard boiled eggs, asparagus, and any other gas inducing foods may want to be left off the menu.

Boneless Skinless C-Breasts marinated 24 hours in Bernstien's Restaurant Italian Salad Dressing. BBQ however you like.

Spring greens salad with a light vinaigrette to compliment the chicken. Throw some strawberries, and pecans on that salad with a little bit of blue cheese.

Serve that with a nice Pinot Noir (if you like reds) or Pinot Grigio (if you prefer white wine)

Good luck!

I suggest grilled salmon premarinated in a mixture of soy sauce and Worcestershire, basted while on the grill with some lemon butter. For the side, grill thick slices of portobello mushroom premarinated in olive oil, balsamic vinegar, oregano, red pepper flakes and a little bit of minced capers. Make a green salad and top it with the grilled mushroom slices. Serve the salmon with the salad and a medium sized piece of garlic bread cut into two pieces (for some reason girls like starchy things better the smaller they're cut into, whereas guys like big hunks).

From a girl's point of view (me!) - go with the grilled pizza or boneless C-breast route Adrian suggested... save the big heavy meats for when you have a group gathering and can really show off your skills. Clean up will go much better if you're not dealing with a lot of leftovers... you have better things to do with that time!

Another girl opinion...
Find out what she likes - then go for it. If Big Al cooked seafood for me he would have been eating alone... I can't eat sea bugs. The pizza and or kabobs are a great idea, especially if you have a few choices and can do it together. It will be an opportunity to work on something together, and get to know one another better. The fact that you took the time to plan this will win you lots of points. One sure bet is something chocolate for dessert....
Good luck brother!

first, how old are you?
and second, how old is she?

third, send her photo to my private message

then, consider this... maybe she doesn't want dinner so much as dessert. :eusa_clap

a couple of blueberry pastries and a few chocolate covered strawberries and a can of whipped cream and

I was wondering the same thing. But trying not to be a smarta$$, I'd like to suggest a Sausage stuffed Pork loin roast. I can vouch that it will be a stunner when sliced and plated.

Just don't call it "hiding the sausage" over the dinner table-save that for later!

Crazy Hot Charcoal Grilled Fillet Mignon cooked to medium rare seasoned with just a dash or two of Tony Chachere's

Grilled asparagus, rolled in olive oil and seasoned with a little garlic salt

Twice baked potatoes

Starter salad of mixed greens with choice of blue cheese or balsamic vinaigrette dressings

Blackberry cobbler and vanilla ice cream for desert
Any girl that ain’t happy with that needs to be reconsidered

That would be my menu:cool: I don't figure we'll be peeing in the bushestogether on the first date so I ain't worried about the asparagus:biggrin:

That sounds like a great idea. I would try and involve her in the process. It would make it easier to find things to talk about until you get to know each other better.

Let us know how it goes.:-D

Wife Endorsed

My wife said this is the one to go with. She said add to this with an appetizer of fresh strawberries and sliced cheese(extra sharp) with a bottle of red wine, nice music (she said not corny love songs) top40, classic rock, even jazz, and make sure to dim lights and use candles (but not too many).

One of my favorites. Paella. Exotic and easy to make. You can share it out of the pan together. A good bottle of Spanish wine and some crusty bread. I bit of fruit and cheese for desert and you are set.

If interested I can post the recipe.

Thanks again for the suggestions everyone and keep them coming! I actually was thinking about Paella. It's something I've always wanted to try, might as well just make it

I'll check in periodically since school is killing me this week.

To answer a few other questions:

She is 20
I'm 21

And yeah I guess I should ask her what she would like

I'll report back

then i'm sticking with the whipped cream idea

Good Idea to ask for some suggestions from her. At least ask if there are things that she absolutely would not eat. That would be bad if you just happened to cok up something she hates. Or you could just go with the "hide the sausage" fattie :)

I lived in Manhattan for a spell while in the Army back in 1995-96. We loved it there. We rented a little house on Green street. Of all the places I have been I often think of Kansas and wonder why I did not just stay there.
