***PLEASE NOTE... DATE CHANGE BELOW***

Thanks to a suggestion by CD, we have decided to extend this throwdown by one day to allow folks to enter cooks done on the US Labor Day holiday

Our new TD category is...

"Japanese!"

As chosen by silverfinger for his stellar win in the "A Viking's Feast!" Throwdown.

CATEGORY DESCRIPTION - READ BEFORE ENTERING

Inspired by Gore's trip to Japan, I would like to choose "Japanese"
No special rules here.

Ray
You may submit entries that are cooked from Friday 8/23 through Monday 9/2.

Entry pictures must be submitted by 6 a.m. Central US Time on Tuesday morning 9/3.

Click here to READ THE RULES for the BBQ Brethren Throwdown...

The ENTRY and VOTE threads will follow Q-Talk rules, meaning QUALITY ON-TOPIC discussion of the category or entries only, please. Discussion is encouraged to take place in the DISCUSSION THREAD, but if you want a recipe, or are looking for details or have QUALITY ON-TOPIC comments to make about an entry or the category you can make them in the ENTRY or VOTE thread. Non-quality posts that are made here will be deleted and the offending member will be asked why they couldn't just post in the DISCUSSION thread instead, and in extreme cases or repeat offenders, disciplinary action WILL happen.

Click HERE to go to the off topic, often nonsensical, confusing, and downright bizarre discussion thread.

Best of luck and even better eats to all!

This should be very interesting. Personally, I don't have a clue at the moment, and no useful subterfuge to belie that fact...

For the post that may have inspired this TD, check here:

There is also a restaurant review that may be just as appropriate here:

... or you could just visit any of Landarc's numerous posts, the latest of which is here :hungry:

Thanks Gore!
These threads are awesome!
And yes,
The first two threads are what got me thinking about a Japanese throwdown.
That one from Landarc is amazing!

Well, I'm doing Pulled Pork. I'll put some Nori in the bun!

Cheers!

I'm popping my TD cherry with this entry!! My family eats a lot from the local Japanese Steakhouses in our area, so this is my version of a takeout meal.

Started off marinating a flank steak for about two hrs.

While that was soaking in the fridge I made up some homemade shrimp sauce using some Dukes mayo, sugar, paprika, rice vinegar, and garlic powder.

Then started on the rice.

Then it was time to get the steak going. Chose to do direct on the kettle for about 3 mins per side.

I've got to get a camera instead using my iPhone if I'm gonna do these TD's. thanks for looking.

Fantastic cook Garret! I too have noticed the flash on my Wife's iPhone tends to be too bright.

Nice job, Garret and welcome to the throw downs!

I keep the flash on my iPhone off. When you are close to the food it is overpowering.
