I am still trying to get all the kinks ironed out the PNWBA results and have them enter their results directly into the website. Just a reminder that you will only be listed at a contest when you finish in the top 10 in a category or the overall. So for example while you did compete at the Las Vegas contest in May 2011 you didnt finish in the top 10 in any category so the contest would not be listed on your team page. You did finish 11th in pork though so congrats, I am sure that was a paid walk at that event.

I just took a look and my team is listed twice. It should be KC and the Smokeshack Band. I am also listed as KC & the SmokeShack Band. Can you merge the two into the first one? Thanks for all of the hard work you do on this site!

I sent an email today. One team listed on our page in error. Smokin' vs Scramblin and with questions on missing contests.

Thank you

Thanks for updating. I will be sure that our name in the future is correct.

Bill Minahan
Que and a Half Men

Our team is missing some results as well.

Rochester NY 26/May/2012 The listing has The Half Chickens in 5th place. It was Pork Butt & Chicken Legs in 5th place.

Eliot ME 13/Aug/2011 the listing has 10th place ribs as The Half Chickens and it was Pork Butt & Chicken Legs.
Eliot ME 13/Aug/2011 the listing has 1st place pork as The Half Chickens and it was Pork Butt & Chicken Legs.

This ranking system only counts KCBS and Florida type of contests. For all the great cooks who participate a Texas-style event, like those sanctioned by IBCA, Texas Gulf Coast, Lonestar, etc., this system leaves them totally out in the cold. Just in the last 13 months, I won a contest and finished in the top 5 two other times and my team is nowhere to be found on this list. Frankly, this ranking system has no meaning because it organically leaves off cooks who participate in Texas-based events. Frankly, you need to include cooks who participate in contests sanctioned by all organizations in a national ranking. Otherwise, this ranking system is basically meaningless.

Honestly, everyone I have ever had the pleasure of meeting who competes in Texas and spoken with about the National BBQ Rankings has acted exactly the way you have.

I always tell them that I would love to include other sanctioning bodies in the rankings if I can get some help entering those results.

I have yet to have anyone offer to assist me in entering these results. I am just one guy spending his own money and time to try and do something neat for competition BBQ. I can't be all things to all people. Sorry you find the rankings meaningless....I kinda like em.

for the record, I include KCBS, FBA, GBA, MBN, and PWNBA (when I can get it sorted) I am pretty sure I have a sanctioned event from every state, including texas in the rankings and teams from across the country. I feel pretty good about calling it the National BBQ Rankings.

I would prefer that if you have missing contests you email them to me @ [email protected]

If I dont answer your email immediately, dont fret. I am going through emails and making corrections. I will get to it eventually. By posting here I might not see it, or I might forget about it once it gets bumped to another page. If I have an email it is there staring at me until it gets fixed.

thanks

So I have been pulling some stats from the database that I think are kinda interesting. Thought that I would mention it in case anyone missed it on facebook.

Most chicken, ribs, pork, brisket, Grands, and total wins since 2006. I published the top 5 on facebook and the top 25 on the nationalbbqrankings.com homepage.

The thing that stood out the most to me was Pellet Envy and Lotta Bull both have 37 grands since 2006. That is nearly averaging a Jack Auto every year for 6 years.

I'm from Texas but live in Virginia and compete in the mid-Atlantic. I really appreciate the time and effort you've put into this undertaking. Got a few missing ones myself I'll email to you. Keep up the great work.

That is why those guys are at the top of the game. Really enjoyed your analysis on the Top 25 list. I believe we just missed out on the top Grand Championships list. By my count, we should have 13 for KCBS and a couple more for non-KCBS. Far from 37, though.

Other factors that don't jump out from just the top 25 rankings are the number of contests cooked to achieve the numbers. In comparison, I cook about 3/4 of the same number of contests as some of the teams on the list. Slap Yo Daddy didn't start until after 2006, I believe. He's running those numbers on a full year or two less than others on the list. I'm sure there are other examples of what I'm talking about. Fun to look at, though. Nice work. :clap2:

I was surprised that we didn't make the pork list with the strong pork years we had in 2008-2009 and equally surprised that we made the list in brisket. I didn't realize we had that many brisket wins over those years. Sometimes you just keep doing this and don't see the forest for the trees until someone points it out. Assumptions that we or others have of our performance (or the performance of others) can be misguided by perception, good or bad, and not by the factual numbers. Interesting stuff indeed.

If I had one more brisket win, and I'd be tied with Scottie for 25th. I've got 30 contests in since my first, 1st in brisket in 2007. I wish I could've done more contests like a lot of you guys.

I was looking at some sort of winning percentage metric the other night. I have to do some more digging on that one. I also want to look at the traveling teams compared to teams that mainly win in a particular state. But I think it is interesting to see how things shake out. I really didn't expect Pellet Envy and Lotta Bull to have the most Grands. I thought that it would be Jack's Old South. Anyway, fun stuff. Glad you guys have enjoyed it.
