Hi all, i'm new to the brethren, but been smoking for a couple years now. I feel like i've been killing it with everything but brisket. Ive only been using my old country offset but its too hard for me to do anything but cook a brisket the day before if I want to feed everyone at a decent time the next day...I have kids...they dont make it easy to stay up all night to feed the offset......so i've been thinking of building a UDS and have gotten some great ideas here.

Here are some pics(hopefully I can figure out how to post them) and what I did....i'd love any advice, thoughts or feedback(other than hate on the colors from non cubs fans..i'm not actually a die hard fan but my wife and son are so that's the only way I could keep it in sight) Also, I really want to add a table and maybe hinges, does anyone have any advice for a foldable or removable table since i'll prob be storing in a shed.

I got a unlined 50 gal drum, top didn't have bungholes but I got a 22" weber because I wanted the top and grate anyway. Burned it out with a weedburner as recommended.
I have a cheap welder and wanted an excuse to use it and get better so I only drilled when needed. Also, I was going to use 3/4 pipe like everyone else but got some free 1 1/4 pipe from lowes so decided to try something different, I attaced a flange and found a metal hole cover that fit perfect as a damper on the flange. I did do the 3/4 nipple in the back with a plug.
Also, like the idea of adjustable shelves so cut and welded cheap brackets on the inside. I really wanted it mobile so got 2ft of threaded rod and some cheap wheels from harbor freight.
the thermometer I took from my other smoker since I had two on it but also added a 3/4 conduit under it that I shoved a cork in and drilled a small hole to poke the probe through. For the top I welded some 1" thin steel around the rim and added some oven gasket for a nice fit.

I think that's about it for now, but like I said, I may want to tweek it and add some stuff later if I get some good ideas
