KCBS TOY Standings

Had a great talk with George today. I think his intentions are good. It appears that the KCBS is years behind in technology and the previous board wouldn't recognize the fact that exponential growth was occurring and a serious case of "keep it in the family of good ole boys" in outsourcing proved to be a failure.

Maybe the KCBS Needs a little help in the day to day administration area. Maybe a consultant that can provide the solutions needed and see that they are implemented without changing the "Family"

Based on duplicate names, and spelling errors there was significant labor involved. At the present time, the office staff has enough to accomplish on a daily basis without adding this project to the mix.

If they have enough work to do already then hire someone else. I don't see how hard that is. The board could hire someone through a temp agency to deal with this issue and get it up and running probably at a fraction of what it would pay the "IT consultant/marketing firm".

How much time do you think it would take to answer 1000 phone calls a day complaining about this one issue? How long will it take to answer 1000 emails a day? This is the direction we are headed here.

Will the office staff just stop answering the phone so they don't have to deal with this issue, at the direction of the BoD?

Well you have identified already that there is a staffing issue and Member benefits cannot be provided efficiently or in efficiently. How about a motion at the next BoD meeting to hire at least temp staff to deal with this issue?

anyone?

anyone?

:mmph:

You can get rid of all the spelling errors by issuing each team a unique ID. There is already a list of teams that the KCBS has, have a simple script go through and assign each team an ID. Then when new teams join or whatever you can assign them an ID also.

My previous post has some ideas as far as running the database

As far as getting it done cheap:
You can get some college kids to do this as a project, good for their resume and they could use it as a capstone project.

Another option would be to issue a challange. Come up with some parameters of what is wanted and details of what is currently there. Then say something like top 5 submitted implemenetations get a free years membership and the selected implementation wins a lifetime membership.

All of your ideas are good ones, but will they fall on deaf ears. The members of the board who have posted so far probably share the same frustration as we do. Basically any movement forward would be a good thing. One day the good ol' boy way of doing things will go away but until then, sadly, we have to deal with the same old bull.

Okay,

One of the newer folks here will ask the silly question. I would assume, (they tell ya to never do this), that there is a process by which an idea or motion can be introduced at the board level. Most likely by a voting board member in good standind at either an open or closed membership attended board meeting. Perhaps would be addressed to the president of KCBS and the chair of the technology committee?

That motion might read something like,

"I (Board member name here), would like to propose the following project on behalf of the general membership, be adopted for consideration in the current calendar year. Included in this motion is a proposal to either research, create, or otherwise modify or purchase the following software to facilate the creation of standardized team UID numbers and to create a uniform identifier so as to allow better record keeping of the current standing and scores.

This proposal/charter associated with this motion would include the developement of the following functions, and features and would also provide the following benefits to the general membership at large. Yada, Yada, Yada..."

A discussion would then be either permitted by either the acting president or it might be referred to the chair of the technology committee, and or tabled with a reasonable reason noted in the minutes with an option for due consideration at a later time frame.

Does the BoD operation under some fashion there of related to classic Robert's Rules of order or does it follow a different set of By-laws? Not seeing them immediately on the website. Can a member in good standing construct a proposal and have it submitted to the board via a board member?

Perhaps this has already been done in the past relating to having due consideration for proposals being submitted to the technology committee by various shops and or programming houses? IE A request for proposals with estimated costs associated with this sort of developement work and or purchase or lease of a system?:idea:

There are a number of great ideas in the works for KCBS and its web page. Guarantee that this ToY idea will make it to the agenda and get a vote of the board.

Regards,

Candy

Paraphrased but above are Candy's words. Looks to me that it will be going to the board.
