Johnnie's Beef it is!! Sounds great. Just mapquested it and it's only 7 miles from the hotel.

Thanks Scottie. See ya in a couple weeks!!

It is the best beef place in Chi-town. Honestly, I would rather go there than an overpriced steak house anyday...

See you next weekend.

Scottie

lets not get crazy now....
Tonto - you will soon find out that one of Chi-Towns greatest past time is arguing with each other over who serves the best eye-talian beef :)

yea..but I grew up NEAR Johnnies...I was more than likely hitting Als On Taylor Street back then..and Carms on 12th..
I do like Johnnies ..i just dont think its worth the stand in line and they are stingy on the meat..

LOL...Will have to give them all a try with as many comps we have planned in your neck of the woods this year!

Carms was my place too. I also loved the fries at that place on Harlem and Madison (the a-frame building) which I am having a brain cramp what their name is... But timing is a key issue at Johnnie's...

Good luck to everybody. Wish I could be there but I am heading to Detroit tomorrow afternoon and hoping the roads won't be too bad. Maybe if I get there early enough I can hit a casino to make up for not being with all of you.

Ford... Good luck at the casino!

Tonto... I'll see you tomorrow. I'm on the list of judges as an alternate since I didn't know if i was going to be able to make it until Thursday, so if I can't judge I just walk around and harass the cooks :-D

Have a good time Ford!! Win Big!!!:-D

Congrats to all! The cold obviously made it an interesting day. When I arrived at the site I walked around to say hello to the cookers and either folks were huddled inside their cars, vans or campers, or they were bundled up so tight that I could only recognize two or three people! :-D

The cold generated a couple of good stories. Burnt Food Dude almost didn't make it bacause his equipment was in his garage and the garage door was frozen shut. Dr. Chuckie made it to the site on Saturday but when it came time to set up on Sunday the back of his truck was frozen and even a locksmith couldn't get into it . He cooked a couple of categories on borrowed equipment. Smokehunters ran into trailer problems on the way to the site due to the cold and arrived late. As you can see from the results it didn't hurt him too much. Rick told me that he put his brisket in the WSM at 11:00AM for a 3:00 turn-in! He took first place in brisket  Rick, are you going to show up late for every comp now? :-D

Despite the cold I think everyone had a great time. KRE Smokers (Keith and Rebecca) did a great job organizing the comp and Doug and the gang who ran it did fantastic.
