Stop me if I am wrong but, when you turn the transmitter on, don't you want it to stay on the entire time? I just watched a video review of them both...I do not have a distance issue at my house and the older model is around $30 cheaper than the new one...hmmmm

The older model has the on/off switch behind the battery door as everyone mentioned. The et-732 is the consensus best remote unit. I am seeing it for $56.00 with free ship on Amazon.
 
I had to send my et73 back, the range was only 40'. Im buying the newer version.
 
With everyone else ET-732 is a good bang for your buck thermometer.
Igrill will also work if you have a smartphone.
Works with droids now.
