This will the 6th year that the BBQ Brethren on Long Island will be cooking Thanksgiving meals for those in need.
This year we will be cooking for the families of at-risk/homeless veterans, families dealing w/ breast cancer and families dealing w/ ovarian cancer.
We will be making at least 79 family meals that consist of a smoked turkey, 6 side dishes, 3 appetizers, 3 desserts and apple juice.
This is our largest effort yet and we can use your help. If you are in the area and would like to lend a hand, please lmk. You can also go to the Facebook search bar and look for Turkeys Against Cancer 2017. It's a public event page with all the info.
We will have a small squad of Brethren and about 6 rigs outside all day on the 22nd cooking up the birds and a bunch of other folks inside the building portioning, cooking and packing up.
If you aren't local and would like to help, we are collecting items for the veterans such as socks, gloves, hats, protein bars, hygiene products, etc.
I'd gratefully give anyone my mailing address if they'd like to send something to include.
