I got a package from Ron.
2 bags of coffee beans
Here is the "Coffee Geek" info on them that he provided:
Here's the scoop on the coffees...

Kenya AA Kagumoini Estate

This coffee has it all; good depth of flavor, bright acidity, deep dark-fruit tones, Kenya citrus/wineyness and an aftertaste that doesn't quit. It's not a sweet coffee but it doesn't need to be. What else can I say? As an additional bonus, it was a pleasure to watch it roast; beautiful large, evenly-roasted beans. I just wish I had received more than an 80-gram sample because I'd like to have taken this coffee for a ride at a deeper level of roast. I usually roast light for cupping to be able to get the varietal qualities and identify faults without roast tastes interfering. If it goes up for bid, and I hope it does, I'll buy some even though my stash is bulging! Reading over this review, I guess you can tell that I liked this coffee!

Dry Fragrance: 4.2
Wet Aroma: 4.2
Flavor: 7.7
Finish: 7.4
Acidity: 7.7
Body: 6.8
Cupper's Correction: +2.0

Brazil Daterra Farm Yellow Bourbon Organic

The coffee was roasted in a PID'd Sirocco "fluid bed" hot air roaster. The coffee was cupped blind against a control sample. See former thread in this forum for further details on my procedure
Roast Level: City
Rest: about 12 hours.

What a great year for Brazilian coffee! As if the Poco Fundo needed an encore, this coffee and some other non-Brazilians was sent to me for cupping by sumocomputers and his cohort, chargerswin. They plan to be new coop distributors from the San Diego area. This coffee comes from the Daterra Farm(s), renowned for their innovations, dedication to quality and preservation of the environment and is sent from Brazil in 53-pound nitrogen-flushed containers.

The coffee is low acid, mild, very sweet, with a creamy mouthfeel, hints of tropical fruits and fairly bursting with toasted hazelnut flavor. There's rich crema for espresso lovers and as a single origin espresso, if you like it mild, sweet and nutty, this is for you. I blended it with some Yirgacheffe and drank it instead of eating dessert (saved lots of calories that way)!

Dry Fragrance: 4.5
Wet Aroma: 4.2
Flavor: 7.7
Finish: 7.6
Acidity: 6.2
Body: 7.5
Cupper's Correction: 2.0

Hope that's not too much info...

Don't know about "too much" (well, yes I may...)

Here is the plain English info:
Fantastic stuff
Never knew coffee could be so good!
Y'all need to get on Ron's good side

Thanks Ron,

TIM

Blue mountain Kona from Jamaica is great (had it a couple of years ago when I was there)

Speaking of such, Ron, I am out of your Kenya AA. I need to get some more, or at the lkeast I need a lesson in roasting.

Mark does the same thin with the same results. I have had his coffee also. Great stuff. I need to get into this coffee roasting thing.

Finally solved an amateur posting mistake
Here is the good stuff
We love pics--right???

How about that coffee that comes from monkey crap. The monkeys eat the pods, crap out the beans, the crap/beans are collected. Supposedly being partially digested makes the coffee beans good.

And just in case you think I am full of it....

I have heard that that is some good coffee. At $300 per pound, I will not pony up the cash to try it. I would rather go the $32 per pound for the jamaican green mountain.

Good link though and if anyone ever wants to give me a cup for free I will try it.

Greg: what I gave you was Tanzania Peaberry. The uniform bean size makes it a good choice for beginners. Here are the current prices for it.

1 lb: $4.35
5 lb: $16.25
25 lb: $69.06

Personally: I guess I'm just not "sophisdticated" enough the taste the price difference of the more expensive varieties. BTW: If anyone's interested, Coffee Roasting 101 could be a possible activity for Greg's next bash (and/or salsa-making 101). If so, anybody care to split a bulk green coffee bean order? Here's prices for same quantities (1, 5 & 25 LBS ) of everything my supplier carries:

Both varieties sound good, Ron. Roasting coffee is one of those things on my "must try someday" list.

That does sound good. I wouldn't even know where to start.

Geez... I go away for a couple of days and you guys are talkin' 'bout me!

I'm glad you liked the coffee, Tim... Kick, I realized I for got the label on yours after I sealed the box. I think it was a Brazil Daterra Yellow Bourbon.

Mark... I am soooo overloaded with greens right now, I'm in stash reduction mode! I am with you on some of the higher priced stuff. I have some Kona, and its nice and smooth, but I like a bolder coffee. Blue Mountain is just too pricey for me to even try. I really like the Puerto Rican Yuaco Select. Its similar in profile to a Kona, but about half the price. Also, the coffee trees in Papua New Guinea originally came from Kona stock, so they have a similar profile at a much lower price.

As far as roasting 101 at the bash, I think that's a great idea! I have plenty of equipment and plenty of coffee, so we can plan on that! If we roast on Friday night, we can even try it on Saturday morning...

Hey - how aboout a coffee trade. Everyone gets paired up with Ron. We send money. He sends coffee.

Just a thought

I don't want to hijack this thread, but when and where is this bash? I missed Phil's, but depending on the date.....
