As other have said you'll do fine with the large. I have the XL and even whe nI do small cooks I use the extra grill space to set cooked meat so they can stay warm. This past week I have been alone, wife took the kids up to her folks for her dads B-day. I have used the XL every night doing steak, chicken and what not, and all I do is start a fire in the middle and wait till that spot is ready and then cook away. Close it up when done.

I have a Cypress Ceramic with the same space as the large BGE. I've been cooking on it about a year and haven't had trouble feeding crowds of up to 20 people. The Grill extenders really work on these things. I think you'll love the BGE. Have fun.
