Congrats to everyone who walked!

A couple of highlights...

Divemaster and Ramona and the rest of the Stockcar BBQ guys with 1st in chicken!

Bug Daddy Dan's Backyard BBQ (Brother Cmohr77) with 9th in ribs and 5th in pork in his first ever competition! Plus, he was cooking on a BWS Party that arrived the day before! He also had his BWS Party that he bought through a post here that he refurbished and a UDS.

Second City Swine with 2nd in ribs and 6th overall.

congrats to all who got calls (Nice chicken call Jeff and crew)...also agreed with Ron ..a big shout out to Cmohr74
for his 9th and 5th calls at his first KCBS comp..well done my friend! gotta love those Backwoods :)

What a great contest! Congrats Dan on a great first cook. Talk about a close one with Scottie for our first in pork.

Thank you Ron for your advice on what to do for Peoples choice, it paid off.

??? Enquiring minds want to know!

We had a great time, but I sure am confused about the results. Our chicken was pretty damn good, can't believe it was so low. And our ribs...I figured for sure they were bottom of the barrell. Overcooked, was all I could do to get enough bones in the box that didnt fall apart.
Our brisket I expected to do poorly with, just not done enough, but tasted good.

Congrats to all who walked, and espectially to Dive, Ramona, and Dan (Cmohr) What an excellent first showing!:clap2::clap2::clap2:

I just got back from the amateur competition. Even though I didn't walk, I feel my chicken was the best I have done so far and am anxiously awaiting where I placed out of the 26 teams. My ribs were over cooked and falling apart as I cut them, but I will post my chicken turn in box. I have never done a competition before without garnish but it was the rules this time.

Congrats to Dan, Bogyo, Second City and the rest of the Brethren!

We're still trying to find our way. My presentation on pork could have been better, but I felt our team's Q was spot on. Not sure what we are doing wrong. Maybe the homemade sauces, rubs and injections aren't quite good enough and we should switch to commercial??? Kind a feel like Paul (pre Johny Trigg intervention) from BBQ Pitmasters.

Anyways, we had a nice time. Loved the location, being right in town and all. Also, it was great seeing folks I haven't seen in a while.

Yep it was very nice to meet alot of yawl. Had a blast and to see the dogs was very cool. I wish they would have let us jump in too. Its funny to cook the same way and to see totally differt scores. I tell my guys and girls if we knew something that everyone loved we would be millionairs. See yawl at Madision and good luck all.

An absolute thank you to all for the compliments. And congrats to all others that walked, especially SCSmoke on 1st place Pork. I had an absolute awesome time at my first KCBS event. It was a little hectic because my buddy who that was supposed to help me out had to cancel, but I got a backup hand Saturday morning and it was much needed. I could not have been happier with how things went. I really screwed up on the brisket, but didn't give up and it came back in the end as my best ever. But there is a much bigger thank you to all of those who have helped guide me to become very good at BBQ...Bill Mehilos, Ron Lewen, Scottie, Dave Catris (MUD's BBQ), 2 Skinny Cooks, Mark from Uncle Bub's, & many more. For my first comp I got 5th pork, 9th ribs, Rookie of the Year, & 2nd place peoples choice pork. Not too shabby, I met all of my goals so I can't be too upset. That and guess who I met there that stopped by my tent...Dr. BBQ, what an awesome surprise that was. Once again, everyone was right; you get that one call and you are looking more contests.

didnt know about the rookie of the year award..thats cool

It was pretty funny, they called him, and he had sort of a blank stare, as though it hadn't sunk in, then his eyes opened wide, he broke into a big grin, and went to collect his prize! Very cool moment!

I was a bit bummed, we thought we were on time for awards, but chicken and ribs had already been called and they were starting pork! Oh well, not that it mattered:mmph:
