Well I finally did it, I’ve been smoking meat for 40 plus years - always did it the way Dad taught me - charcoal and chunks on a Char Broil CB940X - till ‘13 when I found the Brethren and built a UDS. And then this year I picked up a RecTec 700. Still wanted to try a stick burner and finally ran across one on a local classifieds website. Needed some love but no glaring issues, So two days work and some paint later I am ready to fire this thing up and see if I can manage a real fire.... Gonna try and emulate Lynn Dollar ‘s methodology and see what goes... here is a before and after shot...

Looks like a winner to me, kinda like to have 1 again but it takes time and patience to run 1 and I am short on both these days lol had a brinkman a lot of years ago that was made very well with heavy steel, never had a cover over it and it rotted down after about 8-10 years , learned a lot since then

You have given her a new lease on life and she is going to reward you with some good eats. Nice job, congrats and now, fire her up!!

Congrats on the new member of the "Family"!!
Looking forward to the future cooks. Dont forget the "Break In Fatty"!!

It's amazing what a little sweat (or a lot :-D) and a desire can do. Impressive job and can't wait to see some food come off it

Thanks everyone, it was a tiring but fun project... cooking two butts on my RT700 for the 4th , so I haven’t done the seasoning yet. Plan on sitting with it tomorrow and getting a fatty going....
