A SV unit to get the steaks to the temp you want then throw them in there would work very well if a sear is important to you. if you like rare probably no reason to do anything other than throw it in there
 
Looks very similar to both The Beefer & Otto systems.

Been tempted several times, but couldn't justify the price for those & didn't trust the cheapo knockoffs. This looks like a better option than those. Would love to see some honest feedback from actual owners. I've always dreamed of a Salamander in my cooking arsenal.
