Built my first USD today, took me about 3 1/2 hrs.
The raw drum with the three lower intake vents cut out.

Or stop at HD, buy the small roll of aluminum flashing in the roofing dept. About $6.
Cut/trim with scissors. Sheet metal screw and washer with just enough tension to keep the cover in place and for shut down.
 
This is going to sound strange but on my drum I use business card magnets to cover all intakes and vents. They're all adjustable and I got 100 of them for 6 bucks at Staples. KISS to the max!

I made it out of an old bent up barrel I had laying around. I was using it as an outboard motor test barrel before. If I like it I'll get a better barrel and do a nicer job on it. I salvaged this one from the scrap pile at work to use as burn barrel, figured I'd make a UDS out of it first. Just so I could try it out. Now I just have to make a DigiQ II adapter for it. I taped my fan to the gate valve for this first burn just to test it out. It worked like a charm.
