I made my pit 30 inches deep cause I wanted to cook a little pig. Done that. Now I wanted to raise the fire up so that it is not so painfully deep that I have to bend way down to turn the food. So, I built a steel firebox that I could raise and lower like the grill (to be continued).
In the meantime, I just put it on a couple of cinder blocks. It really saves on the fuel and works great.
Today, I cooked a spatchcock chicken and some fresh jumbo shrimp that I found on sale at Smart and Final.
Chicken
Shrimp
Plated with a nice glass of Pinot Grigio
I love the radiant heat that the bottom of the steel firebox delivers up to the food. Makes for some great cooking.
And by the way, that is the best use of a 3 iron ever...
