trailer and mildew problems

Bill,
Thanks for keeping an eye out . I saw a nice one about a mile from the house last week end ,16 or 18 foot. First thing I did was measure the side "top to bottom"........6' .........man it is no fun being tall.

Rick

   Now you know why I got the extended height one... that extra 6" sure makes it nice.... I can stand up straight, and not bop the old noggin all the time.... I see you didn't have to bend too much in mine either. That extra little bit sure is worth it too. You will have to see what I have been doing to it over the winter. I have been taking my time, and have most of the wiring done in pvc conduit and have only to add just a couple of more receptacles and will be completed with that project. Then on to the cabinets and counter top. I already have the under the counter refrigerator ready to go. Not sure if I am going to make the ice maker permanent or not. I am kinda thinking that I will make it into the lower section of the portable sink area. Kind of a self contained water area. Since I am thinking of putting the ice chests under there anyway, the ice maker would work out great there as well. After I get the meats out, I can wash the coolers out and just fill them up with fresh ice and be ready to vacuum seal the meat and pack them up when I am done cooking. Just a thought so far on that one.

But, first, gotta get rid of the mildew/mold.

Update:

I feel like I am getting the run around now.

I am accused of parking it under a pecan tree, that is why it is so dirty.
I am accused of storing things inside which contain high humidity.

I sent them pictures of where I keep it parked, in the wide open... direct sunlight all day long except when overcast and cloudy.

I called to make sure they are going to be there on Friday Feb 27th when I get there, and asked what time they open. I was told 8am. I told them I would be there when the gates open. Then he says the factory starts at 7am. I told him I would be there when the gates open. Then he says, well, I don't know when we will be able to start on it....

They have gone now to not answering my phone calls.

So, I will be there when they open, and see what they have to say. And the longer I wait, the worse I will be... especially after working all day, and driving all night.... I was told that it would take abt 2-3 hrs to complete.... we will see.

I talked to our indoor quality control specialists today, and they just hired a new guy whose specialty is sealants..... YES......

So, I showed them this thread and the pics.... the first one with the sealant over the door was enough to tell him that it was the sealant. Silicone has to have some type of organic material in it for mildew or mold to grow in. He then said that they either mixed it wrong, or it was contaminated...... So, bad sealant is mentioned again.... it appears that the masses agree with the same problem....

I have made up my mind, that I will give them 1 time to correct the problem. I have pictures of when I bought it, all of the mods I have made, and now the problem....

If it is not corrected properly, and once and for all, I will have to contact my attorney and I do believe I will have me a NEW trailer, and possibly larger at that.... I have too much invested to settle with the same as I have now as I know they will not replace the floor that I put in, the shelving, painting, and the electric. So, I will see what they do, it is in there court.

Oh, and BTW, I am documenting all calls, conversations, etc. They have yet to answer any of my emails, or return any calls...... all documented.

Wish me well.

BBQ season is right around the corner.... and I am pumped and ready to cook.... hopefully with a nice clean looking trailer without all of the mildew/mold infested sealant. If so, I will advertise real well for them until it is resolved......

Hopefully constructive

OK, from a guy who's involved in a lawsuit because I'm suing a homeowner who didn't show at closing to transfer title....

Attorneys fee will far exceed what you would pay to hire a third party to replace the sealant, or do it yourself....

Lis Pendens, serve to lawsuit, file with state.... I bet this doesn't make the $15K for circuit civil. You'll probably have to do this in small claims court, in your state where you have no ability to enforce a judgment if you win or travel to their state, ....

I feel you pain brother, but at what point do you say I have enough invested in it to just do it yourself or hire someone?? I bet at some point as a course of general maintenance you may have done this yourself regardless. If you gotten to the point that you've angered the company, you may be at risk that may do an unsatifactory job, and you won't know for another six months when the same thing happens again.

This is a sanity check, not a troll to make anyone mad. I sincerely hope you consider this constructive. I haven't been here long enough to establish a reputation. If I've offended you, I apologize.

At least consider you options before hiring the attorney....

And then again, it may be the principle of the whole thing that drives you for justice.

Thanks for the input. I think it is that they know they screwed up with the wrong sealant, and are trying to put the blame on me. It is the pure principle and they should correct it, no questions asked. It is like most manufacturing in the states.... they make a mistake, and automatically pass the buck. They should correct it, and apologize. Best PR they could have. Now, they will probably get a bad rap, and others will think twice before buying their product. I have had quite a few already that have seen the trailer, and wanted to know where I got it, how much was it and why I chose that brand. Now if they bought one, I feel bad if they have problems too. Why can't these manufactures just take responsibility, and accept it, they are money hungry, and don't want to spend a few bucks to correct it, they would rather get that bad rap, and loose business and then want a bail out when they can't make those billion dollar profits.....

I guess what really torqued my screw was the first time I called, it was not covered under warranty and they wanted me to fix it. But, if I did screw up, and it had a leak later, I voided the warranty, and they would then not fix it.... plain and simple. They will NOT put anything in writing, nor answer my emails with an answer. They do not want to commit themselves....

It has a 5 yr warranty on the trailer itself, parts and labor, and a 1 yr on sealant, windows, etc. So, since it is only 8 months old, it should be no questions asked... bring it and we will fix it. Case closed.

Just my opinion on that.....

Man, I hope all goes well for you when you take it down, can't understand why companies can't just correct what they did wrong. Everyone makes mistakes now and then,, just man up and make it right. Good luck in your trip.

Just my $.02 . The fuel cost to pull from NC to GA. , and back ! Forget it ,cut the loss , but I would sure let it be known how that builder treats its customers .

I dont know where in GA. they want you to take it but I am sure you will spend close to $300 in fuel , all that time on the road, and the BS. Man , the more I think about this the better I like my Trakker , and that 6'9" overhead is plenty roomy . I think I would go get some top of the line sealer and be happy , cook something while you work .

It is the principle for me... they screwed up, and they are going to fix it. It's only approx 1000 miles round trip, should be abt $175 gas. I was going to do it myself, but..... it would void the warranty. Then IF something did happen down the road, they would not fix it either. So, they have agreed to redo it, and I am going to have them.

The dealer I bought it from said he does NOT like to do their warranty work as they do not want to pay him anything for doing it.....

The more I investigate, the more I find out that there are a bunch of the trailer manufactures in that area..... and most all of their warranties read the same.

And like warranties, they are written to the manufacture's advantage, not the consumer.

It is a good trailer, and I am for the most part really pleased with it. It is just bad sealant, and they know it.

You should have heard him when I told him that they have hired a sealant engineer at work, and I showed him the pics..... and the first words were.... not mixed right or it was contaminated. Silicone has to have organic material for mold or mildew to grow in it.. with or without sunlight. So, he was very polite after that.... and we are a go for Friday next week.

Also, my BIL is bringing my FIL up to meet me, and then my FIL is riding back with me for a while... when momma is happy, I am happy....

I might email them this thread and tell them how patient you have been, how you have tried to come to a happy medium and how you several hundred eyes watching to see how they treat their customer. Further, let it be know that the Better Business Bureaus for their area and that the Attorney General for Georgia, Mr. Thurbert E. Baker's office will be notified. If things are not taken seriously and fixed correctly. Do this from another phone so they will pick up and do not tell them who you are until you get the right person on the phone. Do this before you travel.

Having the BBB hound them for a reply to your claims can take up alot of your time and if their Atty. General is worth his salt, will take up even more of their time.

You can already see what type of customer service they are providing. You are a very patient man. I also applaud you for not letting their name out just yet.

Yepper, already sent them the link way back when.... like abt 2 days after I posted it. I am sure they looked at it as I mentioned it, and he did mention something abt some people had mentioned their thoughts on it... no details though.

I called yesterday after I got home from work, and confirmed my arrival and them taking care of the trailer. He said it is a go unless I hear from him.... so, we will see how well they take care of it....

I like the idea of the BBB getting in on it as well.

I tend to be very patient, and as long as they are willing to step up and take care of it, I will be ok with it. The warranty does say that if any warranty work is to be done, it has to be taken to the factory, at the owner's expense.

So, we will see how deeply they dive into the problem and just how far they will strip it to take care of it. I just have a gut feeling they are only going to strip the sealant and try to just run a new bead. I will push to get them to pull the trim, and clean it like it should be and then reinstall the trim, and then seal it. Otherwise, there will be contaminated sealant left.

I got a phone call while I was at work yesterday, (Wednesday) to inform me that the sealant people have found me a place closer to home that will fix my trailer. I told him that I had already got the details and plans made, and had to make 2 more stops after leaving there... and had to be back up just outside of Columbia, SC to pick up some lump by 5pm at the latest.

He told me to come on then. I am leaving out in a few hrs to head on down. Plan on taking my time and not be rushed going down. If I get tired, just pull over and take a power nap and go again..... kinda like at a comp.... See how this old body will hold up this year to that one.

I was going to pick up abt 400 lbs of lump, but he only has abt 200 left, so I told him I would clean him out... he told me no problem, just come on by and he would load me up with what he has left. Can't beat 7 bucks for a 20 pound bag of homemade lump... and it cooks better than RO and with less trash, insulation and rocks.

I am in hopes of being home by 10pm tomorrow night... so, time to get a shower, change clothes, and finish getting ready to go. Cooks lots for me to look at when I get back....

Bill

Take it slow and get back to us healthy. Remember to take pictures of everything before you let them start.

Well, I am back....

Dead tired, but back. I got in last night abt 10:30pm....right at 40 straight hrs with abt 2hrs rest... power naps.

I am dead, pissed, angry, and ready to advertise for Lark United. But of course not the way they want. Look up www.larkunited.com and see what they advertise, but don't believe the part about quality work and stand behind it.

I got there at 6am Friday morning. He was there waiting for me. He said it would be ready abt 3pm.... and this is suppose to take abt 2-3 hrs????? At 10:30am he called and told me to come and pick it up as they were not going to do anything with it..... so I told him I would pick it up and advertise well for them... he wouldn't even come out to talk to me when I picked it up.... So I just hooked up and left. Maybe a good thing he didn't....

I will get my thought togethers after a little more rest, and get started on the advertising for them.... I will probably redo the sealant myself now, but be sure and take my time so I can let the public see it for a few months, and hope I don't get kicked out of a comp while doing so.... then I will be pissed......

You can go to my myspace site below and see what it was when I bought it, NEW back in June, and you know what it looks like now.

I have all of the emails saved that I sent them, as well as all of the picutres, the bad part, they never replied nor will they put anything in writing.... one way not to commit to fault. This should tell you about their warranty work, and customer service. They only thing they are interested in is selling...... making money......

Ok, enough for now.

Remember, the manufacture is LARK UNITED out of Douglas, GA if I haven't mentioned it.

www.larkunited.com is the website. Don't believe what you read on their website... here is a clip from it: It a great laugh.....

I am going to move over to wood pile and post the warranty section and let's hash it out.... I know, it is the normal, just enough wording to cover their butts, and stick it to the buyer....

Looks like they do.....

I am thinking of making up some signs to hang on the outside of the trailer to advertise for them... whatcha think?????

Great trailer, free mold

Better hurry and get yours before they go out of business.....

--update

I cut a sample out of the sealant and had a culture done of it.... I figured since I had cleaned it with bleach water, and TileX, there would be little to nothing for a result.

Well, when I got the phone call to go the lab at work on Thursday... I was shocked when I was shown what was growing....

I was told the types, but not knowing what she was telling, me, I couldn't tell you anything about it, other than there is two types growing that is not healthy for you....

So, if you are not brave, do not look at these.....

The first two, are from the bottom of the sealant, that was "sealed" against the siding.

The next two, are from the top of the sealant, which is exposed to the air. I can understand "some" growing on an exposed surface.. but.....

If you look close, there is some pinkish looking stuff.... don't eat it ..... it is not good for you, I remember that one.....
