I had to go look up a "face cord" I hadn't ever heard of that before. It turns out that it is about a third of a cord. So I guess that $400 for a full cord wasn't too bad!
Yeah he splits most of it that way as he supplies several of the commercial bbq joints in town with their wood also. I still use kindling cracker a little, but it’s nice not having to split a lot of wood
A couple of months ago, I bought a tandem axle dump truck load of mostly oak for $400. Not sure of the exact volume, but I'm guessing it was about three full cords.
I live in rural West Virginia, where good hardwood is plentiful.
