how did you prep / paint the underside of the firebox?

Little tougher ...... get a lower grit sand paper.... and roll it on.....

Yep lightly sand..... prolly 220 grit will do it...... then wipe down with a degreaser just to get the dust and any oil residual.....should be good to go then

A family member in Florida needed a large trailer pit painted. He took it to a local shop that had a good reputation. Pit looked great when he went to pick it up. The painter opened it up to show him how great the inside looked too. He had even painted the cooking grates with high temp paint. No more cooking until the sand blasting of the inside was finished.
