The bbq devil on both my shoulders wouldn't shut up

I needed some more flour so I figured on my way to Sam's I'd stop at Academy and "just look"......aka definitely buy the Ooni Koda 16 .

Got it home around 11am and have it fired up and seasoning. I took a frozen dough I had and thawed that this morning so I could use the 3rd dough ball of the poolish recipe I made 2 days ago for dinner.

You literally just put in the stone, hook it to gas and turn it on. I'm glad we still had a larger outdoor table we kept during our move (but hadn't taken out of the shed). This thing will be a perfect outdoor table for now to put the oven on and have plenty of side room for whatever.

Right now I have it at the edge of the garage since it's on and off rain. Honestly the rain today (especially supposed to tonight) put me over the edge for getting it today since I probably wouldn't fire up the egg in the pouring rain :-D. And not that I mind firing up the egg, but similar to a pellet cooker.....it's just nice to turn a dial and get a cooker going.

Anyways here's some pics. I'll get a test pizza on here for lunch shortly. I do need to get another pizza peel because the 18in one I have doesn't get all the way in the oven. Might do what I saw one guy do which was put the pizza in on a screen for like 30 seconds to start the cook then get it off the peel to finish.

Can't screw this up..................:blah:

Site was down so couldn't post results immediately, but my knee jerk reaction is I'm sold........................after 1 pizza and that first bite I'm totally sold :-D.

Obviously things could completely go south from here and don't base a purchase on my tongue in cheek knee jerk reaction to that 1st pie, but damn it was good and I can't wait till the next one tonight.

I was timing the cook and it took dead on 3mins. Cook time was of course most likely longer than the 90sec-2mins I've seen in videos because I had to use the screen to start cuz my peel is too big to slide it in :p. I've already ordered a new peel and rotating thingamajig.

After about 1 min it slid off the peel and kept it going with some rotating. Not much else to say............was crazy easy to set up, fire up and cook a pizza. Love my egg, but the idea of not having to load charcoal, torch it and wait an hour to heat up all for 1 pizza was a selling point for me. I probably burn 5-6lbs of charcoal during that 1 pizza cook.

Ooni stats say it can cook 10 pizzas per 1.3lbs of propane, which is a lotta pies for 1 tank.

Here's more pics and will have 1 more pie going on around 6pm

Here's the 2nd pie from last night. Flavor and chew was really good again. I used the screen to start which isn't optimal, but works till my new peel comes tomorrow. This crust definitely got a little too close to the flames and literally caught on fire :becky:.

That extra time it has to spend on the peel makes it take longer to cook, thus the outer crust taking in more heat overall. And I've been making stretching these pizzas close to 16in which means it will be closer to those walls so I'll play around with more in the 15in range.

Anyways here the picks and I'm gonna keep this pizza diet going tonight too.
