Mom could feed a family of six with a can of salmon and sleeve of saltines.

Yup...growing up in rural GA we ate alot of rice / beans stretched with cheap protein (usually chicken or pork that was on sale).

My kids have no clue how well they have it...maybe I'll serve them tuna casserole the next time the wife and I slice up a picanha...
