It has to be true, it is cast into the bottom of this beauty - - The Western Foundry Company, number 4, “Mi-Pet”, cast iron oval roaster.

Does that mean you need to start with tasty food??

I didn’t take any chances, so started with a 3lb chuck roast and seared both sides in the roaster on a hot BGE with a chunk of pecan wood. I snuggled in potatoes, onions, garlic, Oakridge SPOGOS and some beef broth and put the lid on for a couple hours.

The pot roast was tasty and more importantly, a winner with the wife! The “Mi-Pet” lived up to its title of Keeps Food Tasty - it just doesn’t keep it for long, this pot roast was devoured, no leftovers today.

Keep it tasty, Brethren!

That's a beauty of a pot.
I'd like to know some history on that one.

And it makes a fine lookin pot roast with a little help from the cook.

Awesome all around. Said it last time so I’ll repeat that it’s great to see you posting again.

I dunno about the end product. But you can't argue with the cast iron mold. It definitely keeps food tasty.

Thanks. There is not a lot of history out there on the foundry or their cast iron but the link has some info

About ten years ago I found it in an antique store for $40. It was crusty and a little rusty but cleaned up nicely.

Im surprised there is no date on the cast mold. Your link says 1800's but its not the same pot.

Agree, the roaster is definitely not late 1800’s. The link indicates the foundry was in existence from the late 1800’s to about WWII. Another very informative site, the cast iron collector, also has little info. I’d guess it is circa 1930 to 1940.

Either way, its a nice piece, and i bet it would make a great batch of country sausage and sliced potatoes. Great diner, and leftovers makes a great country breakfast omelette.
