Contest Results DO AC Smokin' Hot Atlantic City BBQ comp

Very well run, especially for a first year comp. It was my 3rd comp so far, Safeway in DC and Battle of the Brethren in LI being the other 2, and first comp working solo. With a field of 85 they paid out to 20th, and I got my first comp call at 20th for chicken, lol just barely squeaked in there! Working solo is not so much fun.

Great comp though, will definitely sign up next year!

I agree with everything previously said. well run contest on good site within walking distance to rooms, restaurants and boardwalk (long walk). I was very rusty after not comp cooking the last 4 years but nothing that I don't think we can.

Highlight's for me were after checking in at 1am to find my nephew at the circle bar.
Payouts in casino chips.
Cooking next to my old team mated and family, Local Smoke
Seeing old and meeting new friends

Lowlights was leaving the circle bar at 5am after catering 2 lunches and driving down from VT You'd think I'd learn after 56 yeard

Potential Scam artist at AC Comp

Just an FYI to all.
There was a guy walking around both Saturday and Sunday, Calling himself the Commissioner of the Office of the Commissioner for burns, and that he is tied to the UN.
Very personable guy and spoke a good line. Well it seems he and his "Charity" is a little suspect. He has no ties to the UN, and he received a cease and desist order for his previous organization.
He was not asking for direct donations, but he talked about potentially helping his organization. Either way, beware.
If you met him, draw your own conclusion.
His web site, and some that question his validity below.

I just don't want anyone put in a bad situation.

I'm not sure if I got our entire score sheet. Did everybody else get the sheets that tell you what you scored for appearance/taste/tenderness. We did not. Would KCBS have this info?

Thanks and congrats to all that walked. Fun time in AC!

We had team detail sheets for all of the teams- believe all were picked up- if you don't have it. Please pm me your email address & I'll send you a pdf of it.

We really enjoyed ourselves and agree that this was a well run comp. I'm sure this one will explode if the info that it will be increased by $50,00 each year. We only had to go to 2 casinos to cash in chips because 2 of the call were paid by the same casino. Congrats to CS&B for GC and The BBQ Guru for RGC. Great to see a lot of our bbq friends and made some new ones. Can't wait for next year.

Had a great time in AC! It was so nice to have a hotel so close to the competition. It was very well ran for a first year competition and the payout in chips was unique. I only had to make on stop at the Taj for our 8th place ribs.

Congrats to CS&B for a great showing and GC and Bob Trudnak and The BBQ Guru for his RGC! :thumb:

Man, it sounds like this really turned out very nice, especially for the first year.

We hope to make this event next year, BUT, I hope that the Keystone event is on a different weekend as we really enjoyed that.

And with payouts down to the 20th place, heck, we might even have a chance to win a few bucks!

The Keystone is tied to the date of the livestock show and the AC comp is tied to the rodeo so unless one or the other changes dates I suspect the comps will continue to conflict:sad:

Bummer.

Heck, for that matter, I'd also like to compete in the AR as well.

Question for those that cooked this year:

Instead of a 100k event next year what about a back to back 50k contest weekend (Fri/Sat Sat/Sun)?

Considering the comments from Ronnie about increasing each years payout by $50K until it reaches $250K.... How about $75/$75? Either way I like back2backs!

I think I'd like the bigger payout rather than spread it out. Maybe add some side dishes/grill/dessert that could be done friday/saturday if they want to have some action all weekend? They would not be as time consuming and allow comp team members to spend some time in the casinos. Doing 2 back-to-back comps would DEFINITELY keep me out of the casinos and bars.

Agreed. They almost have to keep it close so that the hotels and casinos get traffic from the public. If they rearrange that lot a little they can accommodate 100 teams.

Yeah but the problem is space for 100 teams isn't enough. Apparently they turned away 40 teams, so that would be 120+ right there if they had the room. Now add in double the purse, and the fact that it was so well run tis year, and they could have 150+ teams sign up next year, even more if it isn't the same weekend as the AR.

I like the idea but pretty sure the casino sponsor's would balk--not many could spend much time at the tables.
