Just sitting here surfing the web and came across a place that sells used Whiskey Barrels.
They are made out of oak, I don't think they would burn up at the low temps that we smoke at, they have already been burned (but they are empty, dang it)
Use a dome for a lid, not sure of the diameter?

Not made on the cheap, $160 each!

Any thoughts on this? Pros and or Cons?

You might be able to cold smoke with them (see Cowgirl's Smokehouse)...but I wouldn't build a fire in one. IMHO...

Saw this on the Web, Looks Doable

$160 for Whiskey barrels?! Save your money, unless its what you grow on the farm! It may look nice, but I've had a couple instances where I left the lids off my steel drums and the fire got out of hand, I can see a wooden barrel catching on fire if that were to happen.

I'll trade ya wine barrel chunks for Whiskey barrel chunks!!

I paid $30 each, but they have since shot up to $80!!

I have a use for an oak barrel but, it ain't for cookin'.....its for aging.....anyone got a deal for me?

Hot coals in a wood barrel; I think you'd have a single use smoker.

Disposable smokers, easy cleanup, just ashes left!:eek:
