I try to have at least 2-3 bags on hand just so I don't have to worry. I was at Ace a few weeks back for things other than charcoal, and they only had 4 bags of B&B left so I bought them all.

I was fully stocked already but bought out the store cause they were low. That seems like the definition of hoarding.

If it’s cheap I’ll buy what I can afford. It sucks that the normally $10 for two 20# bags of KBB at Home Depot during holiday weekends is now $17. Charcoal in general has gotten more expensive, here in Hawai’i anyway. Luckily we have plenty of kiawe hardwood around the island.

Yes, that is hoarding...but at least you admit it.

Hoarding sounds wasteful. Or perhaps that’s me. I’m kind of into the smaller bags of coals. I will fire a lump Brand for excessive trash and mysterious items. But in a few years I will give them another try. I’ve never found anything weird in briquettes. Only in lump. I paid a lot of money for a couple bags of premium briquettes. I’ve also paid $1.99 per bag clearance. I’ve paid $30 for Rockwood and $4 clearance for B&B.
Instead of having 20-30# bags of lump I have 7# and 10# bags. All of my cookers are charcoal. No pellet, no electric, no propane. I can use the same coals in my drum, ceramic or steel and those same coals lit the same way will impart a subtle difference in food.
Guessing becsuse they draft over the meat differently. May be wrong. But to me it’s there. I’ve cooled my jets on using wood chunks. Last several months none. Occasionally I will scatter some wood chips. Post Oak-Hickory-Mesquite, but that’s probably more for me than the meat. Ridge worked well in the drum. Next up one the others.

I usually have 10-15 bags on hand at all times over the past few years. I usually just wait for a sale. I have about 5 bags up at the cabin. Dad had 2 bags. I gave him another 2. He said that was "waaaay too much." Gave my brother some more too. I don't cook too often during the winter months so as long as I have 3-5 bags by the end of September...I'm good until Super Bowl Sunday.

Have quite a bit of Weber coal left. I particularly enjoy that for the longer beef cooks (briskets/short ribs).

At one point I had 16 bags in my garage but over time have realized I don't really need that much stored up. I seem to be comfortable with around 6-8 bags now.

As well Lowe’s had the 30# bags of Western brand lump. Couple years ago they were under $10 per bag at Walmart. Same bag is $20 at my Lowe’s

I normally keep about 6 bags of Weber on hand, but when I get the $5.00 off cupon from Ace I go and grab another. Learned with Stubbs, and Cowboys, that when the stores go to cheap KBB and nothing else, You got to have what works best for your purpose.

I keep a few bags on hand at all times. Having to open my "last bag" makes me a little skittish...

Last summer, WalMart was closing out a brand of lump charcoal that I can't remember the name of and I bought 20 bags. I've still got 15 bags, so I'm good for another 2 or 3 years. Maybe I should grill out more often. :-D

All I can get my hands on right now is KBB or Walmarts own briquettes brand. There is no lump around and it's annoying. I've been pretty vocal against KBB because of the smell and extreme amount of ash it leaves behind, but I'm kind of stuck using it right now because nothing else is available locally.

So yeah...I'd gladly horde some lump charcoal if I could find any.

Not really. Right now I have three plus bags of B&B oak lump and one bag of Weber. Probably will go to Lowe's to pick up thre or so of the Ridge at $4.

I put in an order for 10 35# bags of Jealous Devil as soon as I open the last bag. If I get an email special offer, I may order before then, depending on the deal, but probably not all 10. I keep 4 16# bags of Kingsford blue as emergency only backup.

I plan on ordering pellets by the ton. I'm still waiting for my Lumberjack order from 2 months ago and have been supplementing by trying other pellets that have been recommended here.

I sometimes do if I find a good sale. I had a bunch of Kingsford at one time and then when it was gone, I started working my way through the 14 bags of Weber briquettes that I had. I think I'm down to about 6 bags of those now. I'm not sure what I will get when those are gone since I've not seen any good sales in a long time.
