Thanks. I know you are a Mak guy so appreciate your enthusiasm. Maks are awesome machines but don’t quite line up with my needs. My brother in law has a 2 star and loves it. I needed the size that the 1250 offers as it’s pretty common for 1/2 of our lake house neighborhood come over for dinner. I will take our Memphis pro back home and replace it with the P&S. It was a tough decision between the P&S and Yoder but in the end the cheaper overall prices and greater size of the Pitts won me over. I’ll keep my Weber kettle close when I need an extra hot grill.

The most important feature to me that all of the above brands offer is that they are MADE IN THE USA! I hope the world puts China out of business (typed on an iPhone:mmph:

When you say that you are cooking for half the lake house neighborhood, how many mouths are you typically cooking for? Also, what types of foods are you typically cooking? Just curious.

We have had 25-30 people show up on our patio. We typically hang out with the neighbors on the water and everyone just ends up on our patio after. Our community is a gated golf cart community and we basically in the center where everyone drives by on their carts. If we are outside, people stop and we feed them or they see the grill going and they bring food.

Really anything.. when it’s impromptu it’s typically brats, dogs, chicken, burgers, steaks, chops. When it’s planned I’ll do butts, whole chickens, ribs, beans, Jalaps...

Love it!!! That’s what it’s all about right there :)

Well it happened. Called my local dealer Wednesday and Thursday it was delivered. I was going to go Yoder ys480s but after much research and talking with my local dealer went with a Pitts and Spitts 850. It really is the perfect size for us. The deal of free cover and 2 piece drip pan was great too. Dealer was very honest in the fact that these hold temps very close and Yoders do swing just like my Boone did....Yoder does sear better I guess but that is OK, weber 670 is 10' away!!! I've done a couple cooks on it so far.....higher temps in the 350-400 range....brats and burgers but so far so good. I will say the heat side to side is very even. The slide out racks are super nice too. Will see what the weekend brings for food. Likely steaks and chicken drummies. Maybe a corned beef in there too? Best part about it versus what I had is the on/off procedure. Switch on and set temp....turn off and walk away. SO EASY.

Awesome! Let’s see some pics... cooker and food :)

Doubt you’ll find much info as there are probably just a handful of that model out in the wild. Would be surprised if there are even 20 across the entire country. You considering one? Guessing it would be an awesome LARGE capacity pellet cooker :)

If you have specific questions, Coy at Pitts and Spitts is the man ya wanna chat with.

Have a friend in search of a model that can be controlled from either side, thinking he can do 2 different cooks at once. Even adding a divider if needed. I came upon this earlier for him;

Pellet Grill

Hi All Hi All I was thinking of selling my Shirley 24x36 Patio smoker and getting a pellet grill. I was looking at Weber Smokefire, but with all the problems, I had to back off.
The Oklahoma Joe Rider DLX Pellet Grill,is starting to sound real good to me.
So I would like to hear from some of you that already have one.
Thanks DanB.

Off topic but could anyone tell me how I can post pictures on here? I found the thread that had photobucket options and stuff but was from 2016 so its outdated. Im 26 but I feel like a child not being able to figure out how to do this

Switch to the Tapatalk app. Much easier. Tap photo link, find pic in your phone gallery, tap send.

If i was coming from a Shirley, I would be looking at Pitts & Spitts, MAK and Yoder in that order.

I had a DLX and returned it to Lowe's last weekend. Here are the issues I had with it:

1. Kept tripping my GFCI. I replaced it and ran a circuit check, which passed. Char-Broil sent me a control board and an igniter, but neither fixed the problem.
2. The fire pit would fill with ash. It's perforated and the ash is supposed to fall into the container underneath for disposal, but it would routinely be full and I'd have to run a stick in there to clean it out. That was with Lumberjack pellets.
3. There was a big temp differential between the left and right sides of the cook chamber. Like 50+ degrees at times
4. Door to chamber gap on the lower right side of the door.
5. it does sear really well, but you can't really smoke anything on the bottom grate as it'll get to hot and dry out. So, you have to use one of the upper grates.

I initially liked it, but the GFCI issue got old fast, on top of the other issues. My O.G. Grilla was delivered yesterday, and I'm very happy with the 2 cooks I've done so far.

Cookin’ Pellets Perfect Mix is fantastic! The smell alone is worth the price of admission :)

Alright, so I went out and grabbed a bag of perfect mix the other day. Scooped out the rest of the hickory and put it in a ziplock bag. Cooking 2 fatties right now rubbed with Oakridge habanero death dust (total brethren suck up move). And you are right, the smell is awesome. This might be the perfect pellet for pork ribs, but that might be just my opinion

Going to fire up some grilled shrimp for tacos later. No land based protein this weekend. The warden has put her foot down.

I have both a GMG and a Grilla Grill Silverbac. I can honestly say that the Grilla Grill is a top notch pellet smoker/grill. It's very well built and the options are great!

FYI, Grilla just released the Silverbac AT. It's the Silverbac Alpha with the pro cart for $100 less than buying them separately.

In a bittersweet moment late last week, the kamado moved onto it's new home.

My finger has been hovering over the "Pay Now" button on the Grilla site ever since then.

I've looked at GMG, Camp Chef and everything else I can think of, but for the $800 dollars I really like the materials used, the hopper dump, and the 500 degree max temp.

I think I'm going to pull the trigger on it. A couple of questions....

1. Anything else I should look at one more time? $800 is a pretty hard budget at this point.

2. I'm going to get the cover and grill grates right away. Heavy duty wheels at $60 look like a good option later on.

3. Where should I start with pellets? I do mostly pork and chicken and some hamburgers. I am concerned about getting enough smoke, but I've traditionally avoided hickory and oak.

4. Anything else I should know about pellet grilling in general, or Grilla grills specifically?

Thank you to all!

If it were my money, I would look at a REC TEC. I have no experience with REC TEC, but they seem to be the bang for the buck. I have a MAK 2 Star General and a Camp Chef. The Camp Chef is junk so I use the MAK 100% of the time. I have been happy with Bear Mountain Pellets, I use the mixed blend and Apple. At the beginning of the pandemic, I ran out and got some Tragger Pellets as that is what I had access to. I picked up their mixed variety blend which I think is Cherry, Maple and Hickory and I really liked them.

@MattGoose check out CookinPellets perfect mix, they are running a 7 bag bulk special until Saturday. Use BBQ B coupon code. Bear Mountain and Lumberjack are good too.

Welcome to the Pellet side, I promise you won't miss your Kamado! I don't miss mine.
