nope.. none. :frusty:

It drives me absolutely crazy when you get a 5 or below with no comment card. I can only remember receiving 2 comment cards in 6 years and the last one we got was about 4 years ago. We have received 3s, 4s, and 5s without any comment cards.

If I was an organizer, could I have influence over the use of comment cards at my comp? Could I tell the rep and table captains to not accept a 5 or below without a comment card? Do you think this would affect scoring? (Meaning if a judge was on the fence between a 5 and 6 he gives it a 6 so he doesn't have to fill out a card). Probably a discussion for another thread. Didn't mean to hijack this one.

BTW, Eric (RGC Fire & Spice) said he met judge 6 in Levittown. After the comp a judge was walking around and Eric was chatting with him. He asked how the food was and the response was 'terrible'. Eric thought he was kidding but turns out he was dead serious. 24 entries from teams I know cook some damn good food and he said not a single one was any good.

Well Poobah I personally enjoy something different. My first thoughts were "what the hell are them things" I would not score down for them but my mind is already busy thinking about them.
Color of the meat is great, full box is great. Your garnish is legal so my consideration of it ends there. Your low T/T scores are what they are, individual judges, individual tastes. I would suspect the center pieces were the problem. It looks like you know how to cook thighs.
Might I suggest replacing the leftover thigh meat with perhaps wing flats? That piece of chicken is easily identifyable and instead of wondering what it is you may automaticlly start a Pavlavian response from us wing lovers.
Oh by the way, I think I could give that a 9.

Curious.... Why would filling the box with meat be overkill? When we use small thighs, i put 9 in the box which just about covers the entire putting green. The 6 here left gaps, so my thought was to fill the box.

Well, to me its just TOO much stuff in there that does not need
to be there and its making the box too crowded. Also if you think
that your thighs are good then why put more meet in it to
possibly mess up your score.
I would NOT down score because of extra (good) meat but Im
very sure that some others may feel diff. about it.
Anyways, all in all great box and great job.

Apparently you got the same two judges in chicken this week that we had last week in brisket.

They must travel as a pair, cause we must of had the same two at our pork table in Salisbury (95th with 5's and 4's . No comment cards - ouch!)

God bless the PNWBA! Comment cards are mandatory for all boxes unless special circumstances dictate otherwise.

BTW. Box looks AWESOME. Who gives a crap about the "intent" or "purpose" of the chunks in the middle .. think back to your CBJ training .. DOES THIS BOX MAKE YOU WANT TO EAT IT? YES???! THATS A 9!!!

Greg you beat me to it, id probably be 8-7 perhaps 9 in person,

Phil I really like the sound of the thigh trimins, that is some of my favorite bites, i think its a good idea(in theory). Doesn't sound like you got rewarded for thinking outside the box,

If i didnt hear it myself i would have thought the judge 6 was kidding, but he said over a few times nothing good at all. so 24 teams probably got bit@h slapped by 1 judge you can hope he didn't influence anyone else at the table or that can kill a team or teams.

I just have to wonder why he comes out at all?

Hey Phil, I feel your pain. We scored 44th in chicken. We don't know what happened either. I know our thighs were not all uniform, but not terrible either. We got killed by 2 of the judges. We had 7's and 8's mostly but the ones who were not as kind gave us 5's and 6's. WHAT??? We tested a piece (not suitable to turn in) prior to putting in the box and skin was bite through and flavor was as usual. No changes in our method either. Were we on the same table? It sure seems like it. Matt

I think I heard someone talking about him. He's like that at all contests. Not cool.

I spoke with a judge at this contest who flat out didn't know the rules, nice person but scary as heck thinking that they didn't know what was allowed in a chicken box. really scary.

Good lord man, that's one of the best looking chicken boxes I have ever seen. I would love to see what you think is a 9 because I just tried to reach through the screen and snatch one up. It's BBQ, and it looks BBQ'd and yumdiddlyscrumptious

ELEVEN! Oh wait y'all only go to 9 so a TEN! Definitely a beatiful box.

You're a hard man.

This presentation got some 6's..

We got 7s in presentation

Looks like 7 was the average from the judges on site. Remember a 7 is not a bad score. It also indicates that 9's were outside the range of average for appearance on this box so please report to your local KCBS judge's camp for "re-education" in accordance with the new KCBS judge tracking software.

I think the average of 7 is wrong. I will lower my score to eight, if you see the brown spots as scorching, but, that chicken looks delicious to me, it has an enticing appearance.

I think you may have hit something there. We thought about that yesterday too. We try to be unique and deviate from the normal same ole same ole in presentations... but why would that hurt scores if it looks good.

Because people aren't comfortable with things out of the ordinary. Sad but true.

I would give this an eight. Of course if this site worked with Tap-a-talk it would get a nine.
