I notice that all of the charcoal is not 'K' up, also that the 'K's that are up, and somewhat randomly jumbled in there. Are you, I mean, I am not saying that, well, I am really, saying that you are not going to get a clean light, even burn and a good Minion preheat, if the easy light 'K's are not properly linked.

Are you crazy, throwing up in the face of both tradition and common knowledge like this?

I have noticed that in order to properly align the endpoints of the K's, that they need to be in a somewhat jumbled looking pattern. It's not easy making sure that each and ever end point for each and every K is touching another endpoint of a different K.

So I said fark it.

I hate to bring notice to this... You need to be Very careful when aligning the Kingsford. This is going to sound so bad, but if you do not have a jumbled effect you will end up with KKK. Next thing you know there will be a Brisket burning in your front yard. That's so bad of me to even think this Chit up. :mmph:

Whew! Once again Terry, you give excellent kettle smoking advice and save the cooking session. Last time it was the water pan, now this.:thumb:

Well, after a long drawn out debate with myself, I decided it might be time to start the six coals. So I did. When they were about half lit, I had another debate with myself about whether or not I should add them yet, and the part of me that said I should add them now won.

Then I put the grate on and had another long drawn out battle while the coals continued to fire up a bit about whether or not to put the brisket on now, or later. Against the other voices better judgement, I decided to put it on now.

More to come as this thing gets to cooking!:thumb: That is as long as I can keep convincing myself to do so.

I give props oh Midnight 'sun thingy' Smoker, I had not thought of that. I am sitting here laughing at bedpan and KKK burning brisket jokes. Geez. It's Saturday night, I should be getting laid.

Always nice to come home from the bar and get an amusing read like this one. Plus I get to pretend to learn from Big's instruction, which makes me at least feel like I'm improving myself (I'm quite easily duped, as it turns out)...

Well, we're 20 minutes in, let's take a look at that camera feed.

I'm pretty happy with that temp of 200* for this point in the process as it is coming up to temp. I would be happiest if I can dial it in around 275*, but I'm not going to fight it. I'll let this thing cruise where it wants to so I won't have to battle it all night.

More updates as the temp changes!

I think he sobered up. He's normally not so "gibberishy". No, wait, yes he is.

I think his subscription to the site expired, as indicated by the stuff under your name. I've got some tequila under mine for my subscription level.

Hey, while landarc is away, maybe I have time to check on that camera. It's been an hour since the meat went on.

Wow, now if it stays at that temp then I will think I'm super cool with my mad kettle skillz.:whoo:

...and I'm back! It's an hour and twenty minutes in, let's check what the camera says...

r_IMG_1605.jpg

FARK! That's not 275*

After resisting the urge to open the lid to pour in more water or ice before dancing naked and asking the Q Gods for help, I tapped the One Touch lever a bit to close off the intakes.

...then I danced around naked.:becky:

Well, it looks like the dance worked and the Q Gods have smiled upon me because another 20 minutes later the camera is showing this.

If my past 2 cooks on the kettle are a guide, then this thing has settled in and could go up or down another 25 degrees slowly over the next few hours, which I can definitely live with. Then again, maybe this thing will just go berserk?:noidea:

Stay tuned to find out!:thumb:
