So I read this is an open challenge but is there a particular dish people tend to like to see more?

So I read this is an open challenge but is there a particular dish people tend to like to see more?
This particular one is an OPEN category.

In a regular Throwdown however there is a category, and the dishes must feature that category, or in the case of a themed category must meet the category theme. For example, we currently have a "Wing" Throwdown in progress (which anyone and everyone is encouraged to join) which is a specific food category meaning you must cook wings. You can be creative and use wings from any animal with wings if you choose, but they must be wings. Just a few weeks ago we had a "TV Dinner" Throwdown which was more of a theme than a food category, so people could cook whatever they wanted really so long as it represented a "TV Dinner". Most people chose to use a segmented tray to accomplish this.

So since this is an OPEN Category, feel free to cook any dish you like for this one, just be sure and read the rules (in the first post) to make sure we don't have to deal with any issues around those sorts of problems.:thumb:

After re-reading your post, I think what you were asking is if a particular dish tends to get more votes. I honestly do not know the answer to that. I believe anything has the potential to win.

If you would like, here are all of the winning photos from all of the Throwdowns ever held. You can look through and see if any particular dish stands out as a common winner. Since you have to cook to the category though, I'm not sure if the case would be that the category comes up more often or the dish wins more often. You can judge for yourself though.

I ment more what people want to see cooked not what gets votes. I don't really care about winning. Im making tri-tip this Sunday I believe and will try and get some pics.

Speaking of Tri-Tip, I see a perfect storm brewing here.... someone could make a Chuckie for this TD plated all nice and pretty (maybe a sammie with all the trimmings), post the Chuckie cook striped down (just the meat) in the masters TD and if that's not enough make some hors d'oeuvres (horse's ovaries) with it and sit back an get smashed with a cocktail or two or twelve........ Oh to be a virgin again

Ok I don't know how I got that from Tri-Tip but it would be cool:thumb:

I've got my popcorn ready :pop2:

I would make ribs Monday 8/15 but its past the deadline. I have the Tri-Tip thawing now for Sunday. Hopefully my simply marvelous order comes in Sat since im in Oregon. Best of luck to all competitors.

Btw my Jalopeno "Takillya" is outrageously good.

I've never entered a throwdown here. I'm working on my Masters Cut Chuckie entry tomorrow, can I enter that here as well?

You are correct, there are two main threads. This is the first one.

If you would like to enter, just cook something up and submit the photos by the deadline by posting them along with any descriptive text you would like to add in this very thread right here.:thumb:

After the deadline, I will collect all of the pictures and create a voting thread with a poll for people to vote on the dish they think should win. That poll is open for 5 days, at the end of which we will know the winner.

Technically, there is also a 3rd thread, where the winner is announced and their entry is displayed along with all of he other winners from this year. As we continue along, future winners are added and displayed along with the past winners which will include this one, thus the winning entry will continue to live in that "Hall of Flame" in perpetuity.:thumb:

Here's an example of a recent entry thread (where dishes are submitted) for the "Fajita" Throwdown.

After the deadline for that one passed I put up this vote thread for people to decide the winner. This one happened to be a record landslide vote, we never had such a margin of victory before. Most times multiple dishes are close up to the end, and we have even had many ties.

After the poll closed, I posted this thread announcing the winner. Note that they are listed along with this years past winners, and even has links to the "Hall of Flame" threads for every year we have had Throwdowns.

Please feel free to join in the fun. Those who do enjoy the Throwdowns enjoy them a great deal. We tend to have a lot of fun with it.:becky:

Short answer, just post your entry in this thread, and someone else will take care of the rest.

(farking right wingers make everything more complicated than it needs to be)

Just walk to the deep end, and jump in. There really is no telling what people will like. The voting is done based on the description, the photo, and people imagining what your food must taste like.

What I do is cook what I want to eat, and let the chips fall where they may. If I don't get any votes, fark it, because I know I ate a really good meal.

In an open competition, like this one, go crazy. Just make sure it is something you really want to eat. Or, go crazy like bigabyte does, and throw the results over the fence for you neighbor's dog. :heh:

Yeah I just considered going out of my box using this as an excuse. No full brisket packers in my area. Im dethawing Tri-Tip slowly for Sunday. Hope people like it know I will.

If a bird only has a right wing, doesn't it eventually have to fly hard to the left? BOT

I think that while you can get very complicated with a dish, I have not found that to be a winning combination, necessarily. Very often, doing something we all pretty much love (e.g. ribs, tri-tip, prime rib) and doing it well will do just as well as say, a very compliceated Asian Fusion dish with three meats, home made pickles and tofu in it. Whimsy, cute kids and in focus shots really do help though.

Got my rump roast seasoned up Spanish style for tomorrow. :)

gonna get a roast beef like sandwich with an orange-cumin sauce garnished with pickled onions, cilantro, and avacado slices

Voters are fickle. One week they vote for the most complicated dish, the next week they vote for a rare bite of steak on a fork, and sometimes it is about the story behind the photo.

TDs are about having fun sharing what you cook. So cook your favorite dish, or the dish that you think really shows off your skills, or pick something that is really challenging and enjoy the challenge. Just make sure you're having fun.

Yep, one time I had a cook that overlapped two TDs. In the first one I got zero votes. In the second one I actually WON it so go figure.

If your reason to enter throwdowns is to win, then you need to enter real competitions, where people can taste your food.

This is online competition, and judging is done by sight and description, and there is no way to have a "fair" judging, based on sight and description.

Some people win more than others, but only because there are a limited number of contestants who enter all the time, IMO. Sometimes a good photograph wins, but I got my only win with the worst photograph I've taken for a TD. My best entry, IMO, tied for sixth place, or something like that.

Do it for fun, make some new friends, enjoy the good scores, laugh at the zeros. I don't have a zero... yet. When I get one, I'm sure I'll have a good laugh, and proudly join the super-secret zero club. But, I'm reasonably sure I won't get a zero with a ribeye. That would be farking embarrassing.

I stated after my first post I don't care about winning my question was reguarding what people like to see and nothing more. Just looking for sugestions. Im doing a Tri-Tip Sunday already was just looking to step out of my comfort box and try somthing new for fun. Can't find anything but Brisket flats in my area or I might try one.
