Swamprb has found a red that matches pretty darn close to the enamel, however, if it's anything like my 86 red kettle, the red deepens when it gets hot, the paint dudn't...

You have to get really close to be able to tell the color is different.

I'm thinkin that I might have to build a table to hold both of my red kettles with table space in between... Maybe even make it so that one of them can be mounted as a kettle or a cajun bandit WSM... Anyone tried it? any tips?

This is true, my 86 red appears to change color as well. Even when not hot the edge of the lid is a deeper red. That is why I chose not to paint it. You can see it restored on the previous page.

HOLY SMOKES!!!!

Just got off the phone with Weber and I can't believe what transpired... the wonderfully personable young lady that helped me, varified that indeed the PN that the schematics showed as the replacement dampers was correct, they are in stock (also fits 22.5 WSM) and they cost $6.50 for the 3 of them including the hardware...

But since that was all I needed, freight was going to be more than what the parts cost...

I didn't complain, I had credit card in hand ready to pay and she tells me "Since the freight is more than what the parts cost and that's all you need, I'll just send them out to you at no charge."

Whaaa??? Seriously??? Hands down, that is the most bizzarre policy I have ever heard of!:loco: And a policy I like!!!:clap::clap:

Talk about incredible customer service! Here I am with a product made by a company more than 32 years ago, it's changed hands lord knows how many times, the product hasn't failed (the dampers are dead due to leaving ash in it for a long time), obviously a receipt for the original purchase is plain outta the question, and she's just gonna send out replacement parts at no charge and doesn't even ask me to pay freight... amazing!!!
YAY WEBER!!!:whoo::hail::whoo::hail:

Dunno if anyone else will have the same results or maybe I just got the right person on the right day... I'm telling myself that it's my charm and incredible purdy looks. :eyebrows:

Yay Weber, indeed!! Them folks is great!

Nice score on the redhead...was she tipsy at all? I noticed she's been drinkin some Coors!!

superstang, the legs are not installed correctly. one of the handles needs to align with the front leg. not hard to do. nice redhead though.

I just got into grilling with charcoal over the last couple years and bought the SJ while I was TDY last summer and needed a smaller grill. Love that thing so much and cook on it all the time, all year round!

I picked up this red head tonight at a yard sale for $10, and it seems to be in pretty decent shape!! Can't wait to try some good grillin' on this!!

Ok, figured I would put my "family" up here on the appreciation thread! Bought our first 22.5" OTG in Feb of 2010 new (Thats when I switched to Charcoal from Gas....and have never looked back!), rescued the SJ in the Fall of 2010 from CL for $10, its a Date Code "ER" - 1996, rescued the 22.5" RedHead No Date Code - Pre 1979 from CL for $15 the end of May 2011 and just got her restored and ready to cook. Also, I have to show a pic of our 18.5" WSM Date Code "DH" - 2004 that we got from CL about a week ago in great condition (I know, its not a Kettle, but I am still PROUD!! :icon_blush:)

I have a thread or two on Qtalk on the restore of the RedHead but wanted to add it here also.

I have fell in love with cooking on the Kettles and WSM (only one cook on it so far). The wife is in love with the taste of the food and that means we have a happy family!! :eusa_clap

Picked up a basket case 18" Redhead today-most likely sacrifice it and use it on a 30 gallon drum smoker!

Save me from myself!

Swamprb, Looks like that Green is a good match! Inside of that Kettle with the leg socket attachment points looks VERY familiar  If you know what I mean!!!

This was my favorite grill for road trips and camping, I forget what it used to be called but it measures 18.5", the smokey Joe was too small.
