I just gotta say I'm a big Weber kettle convert. A few months back I picked up a couple kettles so I could use the parts for a UDS. I built one UDS and the other kettle just sat there. A couple months ago I started using the extra kettle and I love it! I even have a BGE knockoff in my backyard, but it's usually just easier to light up the kettle. I cook dinner on it a couple nights a week. I'm always lusting after a big fancy pit, but it's great how something so simple/cheap can be so effective.

My friend was asking me last night for advice on a grill. I know he'd spend $300-$400 if I told him to but I think I'm going to point him to a 22.5" or maybe even a 26" kettle.

I have had 3 Weber kettles in my 58 yrs. Loved everyone and used them till they dropped. I have lived in Californian and Arizona and BBQ as much as I can even in the rain if necessary. They have never failed me. My wife bought me the ranch kettle for my last birthday and i love it, oh and her too:rolleyes:.

Time for a bump and update.

For those that like a color other than black for their kettle, I have seen some copper-colored ones at a few stores lately. Very nice!

Mine is a basic kettle, black, with a melted handled on the base unit. Don't nobody every try and take it from me, neither.

Very versatile piece of equipment. Searing heat or slow and low, you just can't beat them. I've had my OTG for two years. Its well traveled and seasoned. Took it to the Outer Banks with the Family last year for grilled steaks, fresh seafood, and even a smoked Waygu Oyster Roast (from where the flat irons get cut). While the cost is reasonable, the results are exceptional.

Only wish Weber seemed to embrace the Competitive side of BBQ. If there was a Super WSM or a Kettle in between the 22.5" and the Ranch, I'd be a buyer of both.

I know several people who copete with the WSM. One competes with 2 of the smaller WSM. While a whole hog would be difficult, butts are very doable.

We had to fire a guy at work a while back cuz he was looking at the prono on duty a wee bit too much. Now I sit here and look at that red kettle and get the same feeling he got. Very nice!

You really need a girl whos last name doesnt end in .jpeg... errr. i mean a kettle

haha jk

Just got my first Weber Kettle (22.5). My wife really seems confused by how excited I am about this beauty. This thing is such a joy to use.

I wonder if George Stephen had any idea when he built that first kettle that, almost 60 years later, it would still be the best and most versatile backyard grill.

Oh, and I see alot of you guys use a skillet to catch the ash, but I've found that a 12 quart metal pail fits perfectly between the 3-legs. You've got to maneuver it just slightly to fit it in, but it won't fall out. Pretty much turns "silver" into "gold".

I just got into grilling with charcoal over the last couple years and bought the SJ while I was TDY last summer and needed a smaller grill. Love that thing so much and cook on it all the time, all year round!

I picked up this red head tonight at a yard sale for $10, and it seems to be in pretty decent shape!! Can't wait to try some good grillin' on this!!

Hey! Looks like we're kettle twins!

I found this lil' gal at a thrift store, they wanted 25, I got it for 15 :thumb:

I know it's pre 79 cuz theres no stamp, anyone know when they went from metal handles to wood?

Also looks like I'll need some new lower daisy wheels, am I SOL or is there a source for em?

Sooo, I guess that makes dating a pre stamped one durn near impossible...

Swamp! I know you godda thang for red heads, you got some daisy wheels kickin around in your mega kettle graveyard that would make this girl happy?

I saw one just like that at the flea market last week, but was scared away by the missing finish. How do you build it back up, or do you just sand and paint and let the chips fall where they may.

According to the "AUTHORIZED" date code, I have an 04 Smoky Joe and an 06 OTG. The SJ was a Fathers Day gift, I can't believe it's been 7 years! Picked up the OTG last week, previous owner said it was a "couple" of years old! Both still in great shape and everything tastes amazing!

Swamprb has found a red that matches pretty darn close to the enamel, however, if it's anything like my 86 red kettle, the red deepens when it gets hot, the paint dudn't...

You have to get really close to be able to tell the color is different.

I'm thinkin that I might have to build a table to hold both of my red kettles with table space in between... Maybe even make it so that one of them can be mounted as a kettle or a cajun bandit WSM... Anyone tried it? any tips?
