Kenji over at the serious eats lab has been writing up a bunch on the subject. He found that the original steak/shroom version wasn't worth it, even when done with the best ingredients/techniques. He also wrote about other versions.

Here is a link to the serious eats posts on the subject,

Looks delicious!

I've done something similar, but it was a muffuletta sandwich.

Thank you for the link that you added. I kinda liked the sandwich I posted in the original post. I think it would be awesome with pastrami with all the fixings.

Was thinking how great a muffaleta would be made like this then saw where they did it on the seriouseats site.
They grossly understuffed it!
It needed more meats and cheeses like ham, pepperoni, provolone and swiss etc. YUMMMM!

The fixings sound awesome... however factor nearly four hours combined between assembling the cooked meats, wrapped in foil, under a great compressed pressure at room temperature... might be a little concerned of being safe to eat without lingering side effects.

IF only mashing it down squeezed out all the fat, calories and carbs, I'd be set. I could accept a taste just to get my HR back to normal.

That is one bad sammich, you could probably feed two or three Brethren with that monster or on second thought it would probably just be a snack for two or three of us!
