So, my wife and 2 kids are away at Girl Scout camp for an overnight tonight. So, I stopped by the local grocery store and picked up these 2 chuck steaks for $2.99 a pound! My wife absolutely hates fatty meat, so I thought this would be a good time for me to try my first one.
Here they are with some Montreal Seasoning and some beef seasoning that I acquired in a trade here :thumb: My friends Jack and Coke were helping me

Next, after soaking for 20 minutes, here are the fries I'm going to attempt to make. Notice the bubble in the laminate . . . never put a 700 degree cast iron skillet directly on laminate . .also, never attempt to hold a 700 degree cast iron skillet with only a kitchen towel, as it will make you put it down on said laminate  Also notice the not-green-and-gold-thermapen compliments of the open box special found here :-D. Lastly, notice the very poor knife skills. I suck at cutting things.

Here are the fries cooking in 325 (or thereabouts) oil

After the fries were done with phase 1, I went out to check on old Bubba. He was ready for the steaks!

I put the charcoal bowl on top of two fire bricks to get the flame closer to the meat. This was my first attempt at that as I felt the major drawback of ole Bubba was the ability to provide a good sear due to the distance from the grate to the coals.

While the steaks rested I put the fries in 375 degree (or thereabouts) oil and gave them a nice crispin'. Also simmered up some shrooms in garlic butter
Here is the plated food. This is complimented by a vodka that I am a part owner of and trying to get launched. If you like vodka, you'll love YES Vodka!

It was a great meal. Now I'm off to make a carrot cake from scratch because it's my wifes favorite cake and it's her birthday tomorrow :clap2:
Thanks for lookin

Looks good! Whenever my wife is out of town I do a man meal as well. To bad there's no football on...

I agree on the football :thumb: However, the Brewers are in a pennant chase for the first time in a long time so I'm more into baseball this year than normal.

That looks like the perfect meal to me even though I don't drink. You can count me in as a huge fan of fatty meat though. I always try to buy the fattiest cuts whenever I can. Why people trim that goodness off or throw it away after cooking/smoking is something I'll never be able to figure out. Kind of like those folks who order fried chicken, but don't eat the skin.

You'd be surprised at how many people I have run across that have been flabbergasted that I clean my plate when ordering Prime Rib. I luv me some Prime Rib fat :becky:

Don't get me started on prime rib. I make a prime rib roast once or twice a year just for the fat. The meat ain't that bad either though. :becky:

Maybe you two need to get some t-shirts..."Got Fat?"

Being a former working chef, I get elected to cook diner at home regularly. But every Thursday my wife works until 9pm, so I get do do the Man Meal thing. Tomorrow it will be the virgin run on my newly finished Baby Bullet. It's not going to be fancy, I'm buying something tomorrow for the 1st run so I won't be able to sit in a rub overnight. I'll just have to see what looks enticing at my butcher tomorrow.

Hang on! You live in Milwaukee? I am going to be there next Wednesday night for a George Thorogood concert. I take an annual golf/drinking trip with 8 or so buddies and this year it is golf at some famous course in Milwaukee along with GT concert. Pretty funny!
