Who has added a door to their UDS?

Wow, you just jumped in and started cutting? Pretty ballsy, considering the cost of the drum with shipping. I don't think I could have done it (cheap/broke- pretty much the same thing). I would have looked long and hard at a "manly" step stool (maybe camo) before I took a cutting wheel to her.

Keep us posted on your progress.

Not sure where you want to go with what you have done. I'd suggest going horizontal with 2 cooking grates and one drip pan grate. But your choice.
But I have done both on 55 gal drums. Sealing is not a problem on either.
I use the door all time as I am able to burn pure wood when I want. I do NOT use the door for cleaning purposes. I have built a few "stubby's". A shortened 55 gal drum. I would not go back to a full size/height drum.
With the horizontal, I have more room than a ranch weber. I can smoke indirect and slide anything over to above the coals to sear. Lots of options.
A couple photo's.

I read the title and immediately thought about Keith's (Fwismoker) 007 setup before we lost touch with him.

Wife took my Harbor Freight folding step stool to use in the kitchen. It’s what my kids use to wash their hands. I taped it up and stared at it for a good hour before I dove right in. All signs point to a door because the pellet cooker has been getting more use than the drum. Homey can’t play that.

Not trying to be rude, but I gotta ask... why not just get a WSM 22?

He has a 110 gallon UDS...let that sink in.

if WSM's came in that size, he'd have had one

You mean like this?? I sold it to a Brethren back in late 2017 I think.

Sorry if I offended...
I some of the posts showed 55gal drums and some didn’t. I can’t see Czarnecue’s photos for some reason.

But either way 2 stacked WSMs give you two doors. Guess I just don’t understand a 110 gal vertical smoker. But really, who cares? If you get good Q outta it and enjoy it then it’s a good idea. Have fun - that’s the only point to this isn’t it?

Hinges came in today so I just finished cutting out the door. Also welded a support bar so the door won’t lose its shape. Also doing a butt today while I grind out the barrel.

Is your plan to pull out the grates through the door? Or just get access to the meat, etc.?
