What are you looking for in a BBQ rub.

something most overlook is grain size of rub. in homemade rubs some things can be too wet or powdery. some things are better large grain than others.

Paul Kirk's Championship Barbecue Sauces: 175 Make-Your-Own Sauces, Marinades, Dry Rubs, Wet Rubs, Mops and Salsas

Paul Kirk walk you through how to develop your own sauces and rubs. He lays out the basic building blocks and even has worksheets with recommended ratios. It is really a great book.
