Pretty excited to grab a 2 yr old T&K Small Gravity Fed. Have been smoking off a Yoder YS640 for a few years. Feel like I got a pretty good deal on this, just requires me to drive 8 hours. Seems like it is in great shape and the guy selling seems quite honest. Canceled by Old Country Gravity order when I found this one.

My question is, this one seems to only have 1 in of insulation. I live in St. Louis, Mo, so not too worried about cooking in extreme cold. We really only get a month or two of real cold temps. Should I have any concern that 1in of insulation won't regulate temps well? I'm still buying, just gauging what to expect.

1” will be more than fine unless you live in the Arctic. I actually think 1” is better in general on these cookers for most. It will regulate well with a temp controller, and if you need to bring temp down a bit, it will adjust a little quicker.

Congrats on the fine looking purchase.

Holy crap, I would have canceled the OCP after getting that deal lined up too. What a gorgeous green color on top of being in solid shape. Hope it treats ya well!

1 inch should be fine. Too much insulation has the problem of the Kamados - Getting the temps to fall when they're too high.

I have a small T&K reverse flow cabinet on order after a lot of research. They have gone to 2” insulation standard since 2019 I believe just because it was a common upgrade. But I didn’t see any real complaints with the 1”. You’ll have some hot doors by the firebox and the low racks but that’s about it.

Thanks. Really looking forward to firing it up.

I bought that same model new in 2017. Paid $2095 with a few upgrades. I bet they cost a lot more now. The 1" insulation works good. I have another with 2" and they both have their advantages. You'll be able to raise and lower temps with ease. You'll love that cooker!

Small sized base price is essentially $2,900 now

Looks like a great deal and looks well cared for. You'll be a lot happier with that over the OC.
