I took my "cooking" grate from the fire box, cut it 60/40 into two pieces. Wrapped them in a few layers of foil and BAM! Offset went from a near 100* end to end difference to a more manageable 25-50* difference. All after trial and error to find the sweet spots of course!

That offset has been gone for awhile now though..

Before I made plates out of 1/4" steel, I tried ceramic tiles.
The tiles worked for a while then one day broke. Thus steel...

While I was doing that project I also mounted a 1/4" steel plate on
top of my fire box. Great warmer for a basteing sauce or for simmering a D.O. of beans. I got the idea from CowGirl's smoker.
(Stole that idea off of her photos.)
I also stole her idea for a Wheel Rim and grill. Works great. I use it at our hunting lease.

Yep... 'Imitation is indeed the sincerest form of flattery'.
Thanks CG.
