Tandoor build?

Inspired by a recent port by Ross in Ventura on his Tandoori chicken, I got to thinking about building my own Tandoor oven.

According to Wikipedia a Tandoor gets to temps. of 900F, and uses a combination of radiant heat (direct over coals/wood) and convection (hot air in a clay enclosure) to hit and maintain that heat.

Now I know some Brethren use their BGEs to cook pizza and even some tandoori (at temps of 500+), but has anyone had any success building a Tandoor using a drum/clay pot or other methods to get 900F??

I am seriously considering one for baking during the summer months They're fairly simple to build, and can be really cheap to construct, especially if you can get clay from your own yard or an excavation site. You do have to have some sort of roof over them so rain doesn't speed their disintegration.

I was looking at this one http://www.poptastic.com/tandoor.html, and thinking about using a 55 gal drum and a large clay pot, the concern with that would be the temperature. I am not sure how long standard clay flower pot would last under those conditions.
