Shagbark or Shaggy bark hickory is a true hickory with an edible nut. It is a hard wood and a very common fuel for cooking in smokers. It will be an excellent adddition to your woodpile. Nice find.
 
Its good stuff but it is a very heavy hard wood and hard to split, at least the larger logs are. Thats why I normally only use branches about the size of my forearm and use a saw to cut in fist size chunks. Side note, did you know you can make syrup out of the bark? Just don't ask me how.

I've used quite a bit of Shagbark Mike, very pleased with the flavor!
