We competed in this event our second contest and compared to the Calhoun Boogie and Blues this event was horrible thanks to the unprofessionalism of Betsy Hampson the Recreation Manager. She was an extremely unpleasant person to deal with and I thought it was only us she was giving the negative attitude to but several other teams told me she was just as nasty to them. If she doesn't want the hassle of dealing with this event then maybe she should ask her boss for a vacation when it arrives next year.

What an event......First there was heavy rain, then there was light rain. The light rain gave way to heavy rain and well......that is the way the event went for almost 30+ hours. I did leave just after results were anounced and did not stick around the watch the larger trailers leave. I am sure that looked more like a tractor pull contest than a BBQ event.

I guess I need to call KCBS and talk to them about the way the results are listed....The Atlanta BBQ Club competed in this event and I was the KCBS member who signed us up for the event. When the results got listed on the KSBS site they are listed as my "Wilbur's" team name. I guess they picked that name up from my KCBS number.

As for the organizer.. I have competed in this contest as a backyard team, as part of a pro team and my child has competed in the kids que contest. Betsy Hampson has been nothing but a fantastic planning and putting on this event. For the last two years she has had extreme weather conditions to deal with and she has dealt with them very admirably. Her staff was great as well....they came by my tent several times this weekend and asked if I needed anything. Every time I asked anything of them they were more than willing to help with my request.

Betsy and her entire crew do a fantastic job at this event and always have, I wish the weather would have been better for them but, this is one of the best and most friendly events we have in Georgia. I cook 20+ events a year and this one is a top notch one for sure. Good seeing all my fellow bbq family members there this past weekend, I just wish we could have spent more time hanging out instead of hiding from the rain.

Sorry you had a bad experience. For us, the entire staff was very helpful and welcoming. Betsy came by our trailer several times to see if we needed anything and was always pleasant.

Can't speak as a team (yet) but I've judged this every year from start but this year & had no problems other than related to rain/flooding in a previous year. I think the Bigler's have done well as reps & have had no problem in getting info from contest when emailed. This is one of the contests on my "to do" list when I get back to competing as it's an easy drive for me plus I like the location even w/ any rain/flooding problems that may occur.

This was our first year doing this event, and we're not one of the "big name" teams so I know we were not being catered to due to status, and I would fully disagree with you on your comments about Betsy. I think she did a great job running this event, and everything was well organized from a team standpoint. We've competed in a lot of events in the last year and this has been one of the best; we'll be back for sure!

Thanks Tom! Now we just need to get our chicken and brisket to hit on the same weekend as our pork and ribs :doh:. I'll just claim what all cooks always claim and say we landed on the "bad table" for pork (I'll admit our ribs were sub-par; lots of shiners that I didn't see when I bought them because they were a 4 pack).
