Awesome build thread my man, I plan to do something similar in a few years when we move and I get my shop setup at home. Thinking 24" schedule 10 (1/4" wall) cook barrel about 48" long, 20-24" schedule 40 firebox (thicker wall on FB than CB to help hold heat but keep overall weight of rig down just a bit) and maybe doing some type of trailer mount setup.
 
This will probably be my last update on this thread (unless I ever get round to painting it).

I was almost dreading that it wasn’t going to work that well. The experience of my cheap smoker (learning curve + thin steel + poor design) left me feeling a bit anxious about the whole thing.

Now that I’ve had a few practice cooks, I’ve worked out a decent size piece of wood to maintain a 250* cook chamber. It’s almost too easy and dare I say enjoyable.

I’m cooking a brisket - a couple of hours in and it’s chugging along near 250*. All I’m doing is adding a preheated price of timber every 40-45mins. That’s all.

My cup of tea is there for scale. I loaded up my basket with charcoal, chucked a few bits of timber on and soon had a 400* cook chamber. I let it burn down to coals, dialed in my intake and exhaust and threw a split on and away it goes.

Thanks for all the advice, encouragement and comments throughout this project. It definitely makes the cook much easier and fun with a product that works well.
