Hello
I was looking to get some feedback on the right way to maintain my Lang smoker. There are a couple of things I do already:
After speaking to the Lang folks they recommend taking a wire brush to rust spots then spraying high temp pain on the smoker. Do folks do this? If so how often and how much do you take off?
Also I noticed there is some rust inside the firebox. Doesn't seem like there is much I can do about that. Is there?
The firebox seems to get the most rust even on the outside because of the paint peeling from the heat. Is this normal?
What else should I be doing?
Thanks
Sam
I was looking to get some feedback on the right way to maintain my Lang smoker. There are a couple of things I do already:
- When the paint is in good shape and the smoker is warm, I rub mineral oil on the entire smoker.
- I scoop all the ash out of the firebox after each cook.
- After the smoker is good and hot, I spray the inside down with water to get some of the caked on junk off.
- I use a wire brush to clean off the grates after cooks.
- After a few cooks I remove the grates and scrap the plate with a scrapper (although I don't know what the heck to do with all the junk this produces)
