I have started building my tank version of a UDS. I work a lot so it's gonna take some time. I'm building all the grates out of pencil rod so there's gonna be some time on the welder. My buddy gave me a basket that came out of some kind of farm machinery that I'm gonna use for my coal basket. Its stainless and already has the holes in it.

If it didn't matter it wouldn't matter!!!

I'm looking forward to your progress too Petie! Wish I had your welding skills. :-D

I really have no idea. BUt that basket looks like it might have problems. Are there enough holes on the bottom to let the ash fall out?

Looks like a nice start petie, I'll have to stop by and see the finished product.

Keep us posted.

The basket doesn't have a bottom in it. I'm planning on makin one out of the pencil rod when I make my grates.
I was also gonna open all the holes up. I don't know if they all need opened or not though.
Stop on by Dave. You can take some persimmon chunks with ya.

If those before pic's don't show you what a 'Red-Neck Bobsled" is I don't know what does. Nice looking build, have fun with it.

I was ridin it behind the 4 wheeler before I hacked it up. My wife reminded me that I was 40 years old.

You may not have to. When I was at the Kearney BBQ contest last weekend, one of the teams had a fire pit (for keeping warm) made out of an old washing machine tub. The holes were just about the same size or maybe smaller and it had an awesome fire going in it.

Cool pit by the way!

That will be a nice H.U.D.S., I'm starting one from a 110 gallon new oil tank soon here, if it works well Ive got its big brother, a 220 that Ill put on a trailer, It came with 2.5 inch ball valves and bottom intake vents already welded in just the right heighth...

These days I look around at everything as a possible smoker,.....if I could just get a fire basket in my X-wifes belly...hmmm.:becky:

Here's the basket sitting in the bottom. The basket has a fiberglass bottom in it that I have to take out. I also welded a ring around the top to put a gasket in. It'll be a couple weeks before I can work on it again. I gotta cut firewood and get some knives started. I got 12 orders that have to be done by x-mas. I also work 64 hours a week at my mon.-fri.
