What an amazing weekend for the inaugural Green Mountain BBQ Championship! Saturday’s NEBS competition included 14 teams in five categories: Appetizer, Burger, Chicken, Vegetarian, and “The Mystery Box” (a combination of codfish, lemon, lime, onion, maple syrup, coffee grounds, Long Trail beer and a pre-declared sauce and spice/spice rub). 23 teams competed in Sunday’s KCBS competition, including three World Champions and four first-timers. All results for both days have been posted at www.kcbs.us/event/5569/green-mountain-bbq-championship.

Congratulations to Saturday’s NEBS Grand Champion A Mazie Q from New Hampshire, and RGC Big Ugly’s BBQ out of Maryland. Special notice should be given to Nor’Easter Smoke who placed numerous times in their first competition, including 1st in the Burger category. Also, two KCBS judges – Dan DeCourcey and Bob Best – decided to compete last-minute as the team Up In Your Grill, did a 9pm Wal-Mart run to get two cheap grills and supplies, and had three calls!

Sunday’s competition was just as awesome, including three perfect scores, and one perfect-perfect. The overall Grand Champion was Can U Smell My Pits BBQ from New Hampshire, separated by just one point from RGC Smokin’ Barrels BBQ out of Vermont. Congratulations to both teams! Smokin’ Hoggz had the first perfect score for their Pork turn-in, while the final decision for the Chef’s Choice category was decided by a perfect-perfect score from A Mazie Q versus Big Ugly’s BBQ and their perfect score.

We thank all the teams for supporting our first year, had loads of fun, and look forward to bigger and better next year! We also appreciate all the judges who gave of their weekend and did a great job scoring some amazing turn-ins. Finally, thank you to our KCBS team – Steve & Vivien Bedwell, and Jennifer & Bill Shiflett – who were extremely supportive of our inaugural efforts and provided tons of advice and guidance.

We hope you’ll join us next year!
