So there is a Chili, soups and stews throwdown going on right now https://www.bbq-brethren.com/forum/showthread.php?t=276452 And with that and the falling temps I got inspired.

My usual cast of characters
RSbpacOl.jpg

2 cans chopped clams
1 can whole baby clams
1 can crab meat
1/2 white onion chopped
10oz salmon
12oz bacon
6-8 small/medium red potatoes
1 tbsp each granulated garlic, kosher salt, black pepper and Old Bay
2 cups half and half
2 Cup Milk
1/4 cup white cooking wine

Got the fire going so I would have hot coals for the D.O.

Cooked up the bacon first and then added the onion. Oh I wish this pic had the aroma with it.

After letting that ride for a bit I pulled back the coals to reduce the heat before adding the half and had and milk.

Thanks ya'll for looking.

Now that's the way cast iron is meant to be used. Well done, Josh!
Clam chowder is one of my favorites too. Yours looks delicious!! :-D

Thanks Jeanie. I love my cast iron and I love using it like this. But it's most often on the gas range.

This looks awesome!!! The Dutch Oven is an excellent touch as well.

Thanks. I think a Dutch Oven can make almost anything just a little bit better.

YUM I would love some of that

Thanks George. Too bad it does not ship well. :)

That is absolutely incredible! Nice cook!

Very kind. Thank you.
Looks great. Great post, just might try it. Reminds me of visiting relatives in Oregon and eating at Moe's on the coast over 30 years ago. But that's a long way from Mississippi.

Thanks. I'll be headed to the Central CA coast in a couple of days and i'll be letting Splash Cafe in Pismo Beach take care of all my clam chowder needs. (my favorite place for it)

I had never considered cooking clam chowder, until this post. That looks amazing, and love the cooking method.

Thank you. Make the jump form considering to making. It will be fun and tasty.
