I have a comp coming up and there's a Chef's Choice entry Friday night. The contest organizer just posted that onyl KCBS-approved fuel sources can be used. Is this a common restriction in Chef's Choice? Seems to take a lot of "choice" away from the chef...

yes, it's pretty common. for the competitions around here, you'll find more comps with this rule, than with an "all forms of cooking permitted" rule

My personal experience differs, and I would very much say that is not common, but I personally love the idea.

We saw a team with great entries bomb, afaict because the judges assumed they cooked in an rv kitchen. With that rule they would probably have done better..

What does only KCBS approved fuel sources mean?. It is perfectly legal to use a propane stove to heat sauces. So I don't see the statement as much of a restriction. keith
