Hey, American Dream, congrats on the 700.

And 2 contests in one place on one weekend is not enough.

Teams take the best score from either contest plus the score they earn at

Smokin in Steele in Owatonna MN on May 30 - 31. Top cumulative score gets

a free entry for 1 day of Central Iowa next year and Smokin in Steele next year.

Just looking at the scores - it looks wide open to me. Lots of possibilities.

Compare Sat scores with Sunday. GC on Sat would be in 11th place on Sunday.

Yeah, this was a big challenge for the cooks.

I would do a hats off to the cooks, but then my head would get wet. Oh wait ---

that would be perfect -- since I have been told to go soak my head on more than one occasion! But not with this contest.

You all are not alone on those thoughts. We thought our Sunday cook was better than our Saturday cook. Our pics we took of turn ins look quite a bit better Sunday. Obviously the judges did not agree. Looking at my scores hurt bad i am concerned that i poisoned someone:tape:. Oh well it is what it is, maybe the next comp will be better.

Not out of the question, but I already have lost that little bonus contest of points from both contests. We are kinda rethinking our strategy for the year.

We had the same thing the second day at Miami, bad weather and much higher scores. I don't know if the judges give extra credit for adverse conditions or everyone is more focused on the cook instead of socializing, but it seems like bad weather helps scores.

Freddie- there is still the Fareway Foods Challenge. Extra $500 to the category winner

of all 4 categories if you bought the meat at Fareway.

And you can win a category. You have done that before unless my memory is out of wack.

Didnt mean that how it came across. We are having major vehicle issues right now so maybe that is adding to the way i sound. I wasnt able to go to cooks meeting Saturday but my wife did( i was repositioning canopy) she came back saying if we had a decent showing we were for sure doing your contest because she wanted to have a shot at the bonus thing. By the drive home Sunday afternoon she had decided we didnt have a decent showing and she doesnt want to sign up for anymore contests until the last moment because of weather. I know thats not realistic, but until her mood changes i am just going with the flow.

We will see you sometime or another.

When there is so much moisture in the air it helps to make a more even heat in the pit. Also, there is no where for the moisture in the meat to go, per say! It will always leave the big meats with more moisture.:thumb:

Complaining about day 2 judging is flirting with discrediting the hard work of the people that did well.

Sure did not mean to have this sound like a complaint.

Just a comment about something that looked curious to me from a situation that is not common. How many times do we have this type of back to back without moving?

I judged on Saturday and saw the serious way the judges worked. And have no doubts that they did the same on Sunday.

And the field of teams was stellar. I meant my congrats to them in my OP. I admire all of them and the way they handled adverse weather conditions both days.

Do we have to buy everything at Fareway or just 1 category? Can we use Fareways this way or does it need to be the Minnesota Fareway?

That was the case on day two of Smokin' at the Run in Miami, OK earlier this year as well. Horrible weather, amazing scores. I have no real evidence, but I think that the weather makes people pay exponentially more attention to their cook.
